    Not necessarily. In HW had they just upped the overall potency of pld abilities a bit they wouldn't have been excluded from content to anywhere near the degree they were. Pld was excluded pretty much for no other reason than they did less damage than war and drk. Is the unique feel of a class entirely and solely dependent on the potency of skills? Of course not. What you're asking for is to make content exclude classes so you can pretend like you're unique. If you really believe the only thing that made drk interesting was slightly higher magical mitigation that's kind of sad.

    And then you create a situation where classes are kicked to the curb for not meeting whatever arbitrary requirements are set by the encounter design or players themselves.

    It'd be one thing if we were talking strictly gameplay with the same results between classes. That actually works at keeping everyone viable while providing different play styles. As an extreme example, if I hit Shield Oath to mitigate 20% damage as a PLD, a new job might need to stack temporary buffs from combo abilities in order to meet that level of mitigation. So a super l337 haxx0r guy can play the new class and a lolcasul like me can play PLD, and both of us are viable choices for a tank.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

    *shrug* if you ask me most people aren't even good enough at the game to worry about raid compositions and should play whatever they want

    i remember being here during 2.0 and everyone would just shit talk warriors oh they are garbo this and that etc well i cleared the first coil before i took a break from the game. so just do what you want. if you find something you like better, that's just how it is. gear slots are generally flexible for tanks... where you have to worry about dedicating is when you acquire weapons or go in on a relic or something but by then i think you should have a good picture of what you are dealing with if you are serious about it.

    And there's no reason to screw over raiders just cause some people don't do it. And as I said above the classes arn't their skill potencies they're the unique way they perform the same task.

    viability is raider jargon which has a meaning more similar to competitive than the literal definition of viable because no matter what difficulty you are playing on you want something difficult to be as easy as possible and so it is a self created problem as all jobs were made with the ability to participate in content in mind.

    So we should just hurt a segment of the player base in exchange for no benefit at all?

    The net difference in DPS when OTing and net difference in mitigation when MTing should be close to 0, but how the tanks arrive at their MT mitigation or OT damage should differ in playstyle. None of this "DRK is best at mitigating magic" and "WAR is best OT". That makes party setups stringent and exclusionary.

    drk has delirium, 30% magic mitigation on a 60s cd (dark mind), and that they can keep aggro out of tank stance super easily thanks to dark arts, which is a huge dps increase. and before you say dark mind isnt actually that relevant anymore because you can just sheltron magic tankbusters in 4.0, theres still damage that cant be blocked, like the gamma orbs in a6s.

    in dungeons drk has a ranged aoe attack and enmity generator which is great for speedrunning them (looks at gubal hard) and probably the best hp sustain in big pulls.

    just because pld has magic defense that doesnt mean drk is useless. it just means pld is going to finally be viable and not actually a burden during progression like it was in alex

    finally, have you even played pld and drk? even if they had the same utilty ,mitigation, and dps, actually playing them is incredibly different. ultimately it boils down to what people want to play. idk why people want to have a "bad" job in every role to shit on
