Space efficiency... hm i guess its about time yeah. Though im not too concerned about crafting items, the armoury space could use an upgrade which im glad they did. Funny you should mention the grade 1, 2, 3, stuff. Reminds me about back in 1.0 We had HQ's ranging from HQ+1, HQ+2, HQ+3. Every damn craftable item, without the option to downgrade them. I guess due to that, to this day, i consider the HQ downgrade option the best thing every in the game >.>

I used to think this thread was stupid and pass it over (the inventory increase is BIG compared to nothing), but after reading the suggestions, they make a LOT of sense. I, myself, have no need for extra retainers, despite always being full, but it may be that all the issues of a full inventory caused me to learn resource management. The OP ideas should definitely be looked into to remove clutter though, a lot of them make a lot sense.

Personally, as far as bait goes, I'd be fine if it fit into secondary space, that's never full for me.

I agree with many of the OP's concerns and suggestions - with the sheer number of items constantly added to this game, inventory management should be a very high priority each and every patch/expansion with an eye on making things more efficient.

Another suggestion I would make that would not ease raw inventory space per se, but would make crafting (especially CUL, but it would be helpful for all crafting)significantly less annoying is to allow us to craft FROM retainer inventory! Assuming you had the storage, how lovely would it be to be able to use the 30 items needed to craft a piece of food directly from your retainer without having to find it all and move it to your character inventory... this design exists in both GW2 and WoW and this game could *really* use that feature, it is so nice.

Small edit for you, it was implied but after reading it over, thought I make it more clear:

This needs to be improved, desperately. I really hate crafting at times because of the time it takes to pull items out of retainer x, then got to click on retainer y. Also there is menu bloat on these retainers, a lot of menus are not needed on them.

    "entrust or withdraw items"
Sell items in your inventory on the market"
"sell your retainer's inventory on the market"

These 3 things can be under 1 menu, and to direct what to do can be done with right clicking on items as now. We also need better steamline of transferring items from retainer to retainer directly. Even letting is craft based what is on the retainers by being at inn(change to allow craft there) apartment/ personal house/ fc house/fc room that has retainer bell. We need to get off the 1.0 restrictions completely and have better streamlining of dealing with our items. I waste a lot of time because of this issue. B]I should be able to pull what I want from 2 different retainers without going though 50 million menus.[/B] It should be set up something like runescape does with customization tabs in the bank, where we could in theory make one retainer for mining items, one for refined mining items, one for alch, one for cooking, but the problem with this, cooking takes more then 175 inventory spots and crosses with alch most of the time. So due to menu bloat between retainers, crafting gets hard unlike runescape where you can just go though your custom tabs quickly. We really need an overhaul in regards to this, get rid of retainers to sell stuff on the market boards, make a normal auction house or something. We really need to ditch 1.0 concepts completely and should been done with the changes in 2.0.

Inventory has been an issue forever. I think I even rage unsubbed at one point because I was so sick of spending half my time in game in inventory screens. lol. Anyway, I resubbed recently to get ready for the expansion and because I couldn't resist the Goku cloud mount.

Honestly, except in the armory it's not really an issue of how many slots they have. There are more than enough slots for general usage. It's end game management that stinks to high heaven, and almost no thought to storage. The devs have cited server rewrites as issues for expanding the slots, because it writes back and forth a copy of the character often while playing. Probably a legitimate issue. Retainers somewhat rectify that by taking items out of your inventory. But the retainers have always seemed like a cludge. It's like they took a bunch of mismatched ideas and shoved them all together....

I have little to no problem with them doing ventures and even being the interface for selling stuff on the market. But Using them as Banks is terrible. There should be a central bank that has an actual sortable interface or a tab for crafting versus other items at the very least. Having it accessible through the retainers as a shared interface would even be acceptable so you don't have to play find the mat over and over again.

As for crafting complexity. I'm all for a level 60 craft requiring level 1 mats. One of the things I hate about WoW is that once you enter an expansion you never have a reason to go back to older areas making them useless and it totally breaks the living world feel of an MMO when everything that happens happens in the new areas. They should always keep the older areas in play when making new content whether through crafting or additional quests or whatever. Hunting is a good example of that being done...

If they fixed glam and maybe gave you a bigger stack count I don't think it would be as big an issue.

Glam is the one biggest legitimate area of inventory bloat. I've literally given up on glamming anything until this is fixed. I've tossed out almost everything I was saving that didn't go in the close to useless armoire, which sucks. They need to create an interface like the fitting room which will let you try on the items you have or have access to in an expanded, useful armoire at the very least. The mechanic of glamming could remain exactly the same if they are lazy. Or they could make a glam tab for the armor chest for each job.

As for dyes, I have no issues with the way they are. "Buy once and apply anywhere" is easy, but there is something to be said for making dyes a useful part of the crafting ecosystem. The more stuff you pull from the usefulness of crafting the less crafting is a viable part of the game. If nothing you craft serves a purpose at end game, you might as well skip crafting altogether. Dyeing is the only part of the glam system I currently use because of the storage issues.

The other big one was housing items. I had a ton of them because I had saved them up for a house, then they decided to make houses expire after 45 days of unsub. So, since I sometimes don't feel like playing I had a bunch of crap that would delete itself if I skipped a few months. Now, they added the Apartments which are undeletable so I can clear out some of that stuff.

Still not as good as fully instanced housing like swtor or wildstar, but if they add upgrades at some point (please!) it would be better than nothing. Maybe a garden balcony so I can use some of the seeds that are still taking up inventory space too.

...and no I refuse to rent extra retainers in a game I subscribe to. I would consider buying one, but fixing the bank would be better. I think Squeenix would probably make more money on special clothes items and such if people had a better mog system. Probably more then the retainer thing if they made a bunch of stuff for the store. If the reason they've let this go on for so long is the rental fees, that's pretty sad.
