They can't without screwing up the placement of the tiles. I think the point is for there to be a larger image on the grid on their main screen.

They're basically revealing a new Stormblood related Wallpaper, which is gonna be the "replacement" of the A Realm Reborn one (^_^ ) :

^ This is what I am thinking. I was on board with the possibility that perhaps its a new race announcement since it looks deliberate for the cropping and strange tails but also because its fun to speculate. People are super quick though to shut it down and get really hostile about it since they quote Yoshi P saying no new races. I'm a little bummed this expac since its one less job and only two hairstyle options on launch with zero new races...We are so information starved that its been hard to get hype for SB at this point for me at least. It was fun to speculate this photo to build some hype but it probably will just be a wallpaper despite SE going on twitter and posting "Hey look at our Instagram! Look!!! It's something cool!". Meh if it is just a wallpaper they should have just released it because so many people were speculating it was a new race, a new mode, a new area etc. In the end its still no new information.

It wouldn't be the first time game devs have trolled players and revealed that said thing is coming in a round about way.

Yeah a new race would help the hype be a bit better. I mean I love being a Roe and Elezen are fine I'm just not into the other races too much. Tho more info of any kind would be nice.

If this is just a wallpaper I'm going to be disappointed.

Ok here's what I think it is... Based on both the Benchmark (Hence the reason for it in the Benchmark)...

And something else they said... regarding Grand Company Squadrons...

Do you remember the large pitch battle scene in the Benchmark... where you're attacking this wall and this horde of Imperial Troops and Machines were pouring out of a fortress?

Literally Army on Army pitch battles.

What if... this is a grand instance akin to the Hamlet Defense from FFXIV 1.0... but with multiple groups of players and/OR potentially your Squadron.

If I were to take a guess on what this implies... and the other Artwork I saw like this one... and the constant theme of the Battle in the Official Trailer... I think these elements might be blended togather.

I think what we're looking at here is the basis for the Squadrons in an actual instance.
