Wondering about an (new) Tanking class I would love :3

I wonder what kind of character could fit with the Monk "contending" buff, really ...










I really love the look of a warrior with some enormous hammer (and not a Axe!)! It has that type of intimidating look and as a main tank myself, it would fit perfectly with my lalafell

Hell sure I can already see the fans of the FF franchise getting trigered like "there's no such things in FF lore", but hey, what is stopping FF14 crew to try out some new stuff ? :x

however, i would like to see such a class as a DD rather than a tank, we lack DDs with heavy weapons big time.

Yeah I totally get you! Too much blade, knife, swords... Weapons that actually cut or stab more than they actually "hit" ....
But euhm, if I said that would be great as a tank, that was mainly because they dont release one for stormblood T_T

I have a feeling they are saving some kind of gunblade class for tank, lots of speculation towards a magitek knight. Like what the Garlean Empire has. Probably when we get there or something?

Edit: I agree with a heavy 2 handed DPS class though.

They'll probably have a tank job for 5.0, but there are two approaches for it:

1) The Conventional: Same old heavy-armor tank like the others. Viking immediately springs to mind, but given how much of a stickler Yoshi is to historical detail, Viking wouldn't use a massive maul like that (small spear and shield or maybe a francesca and shield given those circumstances). Another example is a concept I did for a Hoplite job, which might gain interest among fans of the movie 300.

1) The Unconventional: This would be more of a mold-breaking approach by having a tank job in either light or caster armor and have passive stats bonuses, traits or other qualities that would offset the lack of baseline tanking stats provided (defense and such). A caster tank would be the most suitable candidate, where jobs like Geomancer have been thrown around, while Green Mage (which does wield a massive hammer) and some variant of Morpher from FFTA could fit this position as well.

There's only one "Slashing" DPS as of this moment lol. Most DPS are actually Arcane/Piercing for some reason.

A hammer tank would be cool, I'm still holding out for Blue Mage tank though

What DPS is slashing? From what I see drg, brd, and nin are piercing. The only slashers are tanks from the looks of it.

Thanks. I figured ninja did piercing, as daggers normally pierce.
