Just as the title says. with 4.0 coming around it "seems" like GC's will be taking sort of a backseat this time around which is ok, so after 4 years have pasted since release I thought it be a good time to talk about it.


It feels like they've been constantly an after thought just exsisting and pretty sure not a whole lot of people no why (unless you take the time to look it up instead of the game telling you, or it did tell you and its been so long that you can't remember lol).


We waited 3 1/2 years to finally get a new GC rank only to find out thats its just more ventures (with additions coming, yes i'm aware). According to your journals, there are only 2-3 total GC quest (surprised there's a tab for this lol) . And who knows when the next GC rank will be released. So (Not saying that it is but) the possibility is real that most of us (including myself) may not even be playing by the time the final ranking is released at this pace xD lol

Because right now they "feel" like glorified crafting hubs with a good # of restritions that are almost irrelevant to the game (or when the MSQ calls for them) lol

So, What do you feel is the current state and how would you improve upon it? Lets chat! (and try to keep it civil if possible lol =P)

I'm a roleplayer from Balmung that built my entire main ic and ooc around the Immortal Flames and even I don't care at this point.

That being said, Maelstrom needs to step it up in comparison to the other GCs.

One thing I'd like to see is the Glamour restiction drop or the Restriction to switch.. Its tough not being able to do this. I mean you put time into grinding your butt off for something only to never be able to glamour it onto your gear because you are part of or switched alligances. And sure eventually I'd like to rank all of them up too max just because I can but the problem is that your forced wait 2 weeks (15 days) to switch back.. so now you may have gear from 2 different companies and can't use both unless your willing to take a very long wait lol

Bring back Hamlet Defense but rename it into "Squadron Operations".

Basic concept:
You and your GC Squadron will take up a Solo Instance mission where they you command where each member of your Squadron will go to provide support and boosts to allies.


Tank Job Squad members: Provide more defense to NPCs in areas they support if they are sent to aid with defending a location if they are placed on Gate Defense or Base Area Defense. If placed on Wall defense they make it more difficult for enemies to reach the top of the wall. If they are sent on Supply run task they can carry more supplies to locations specific locations you command the Supply Unit to bring aid to.

Melee DPS Squad Members: Provide increase in Damage to NPCs in the Gate or Base Area Defense. Wall Defense adds addition melee NPCs to aid in Wall Defense. If Supply Run task they increase the speed of Supply Unit to reach locations you command them to aid.

Range/Mage DPS Squad Members: Provide additional Ground Units to support Gate and Base Area Defense. If sent to Wall Defense they will add additional Range Units to the Wall for Range Attack support. If Supply Run task they provide more Defense Units to protect the Supply Units.

Healers Squad Members: If placed on Gate or Base Area Defense they provide Auto-regen and can access large AoE Healing skills that normal Healer NPCs cannot have. On Wall Defense they provide increase defense to Units on the Wall. In Supply Run task they provide additional supplies and a extra random Reinforcement Unit to Supply aid.

There will be different Squadron operations such as Defense which is basic defend a GC stronghold that belons to your GC, Reinforcements which you start outside of a GC stronghold from a different GC and work your way into the Stronghold to aid with their defense with your GC Squadron, and Reclaim which focus on reclaiming a GC Stronghold from a enemy with also involving different type of enemies based on which mission you take. Once completed enough Squadron Operations a Emergency Operation appears which will be the GC Rank Up mission.

At this point, there's not much they could do to get me interested in the Grand Companies. It's so far gone that I had completely forgotten they existed until I heard that they sold moonstones. I didn't have high hopes for Squadrons, which they apparently are planning to do something with? I guess? Maybe? Either way, I stopped doing Squadron stuff not long after they came out. And what worries me is the prospect of them adding gated content later on that requires you to have a maxed out Squadron. (This is complete conjecture on my part, not hard facts). IF that happens, I have only myself to blame, but I will bitch and moan the entire time I'm playing catch-up if that day comes lol
