I'm inclined to believe that the design team in Japan is primarily straight and male, from everything I have seen, and shopping the male bunny suit out to a female designer was a deliberate choice to break out of the systemic bias that has apparently crept in. I'm honestly impressed with their attitude towards these issues overall. Square-Enix has tended to be very good at accommodating people of all tastes (hence us all congregating here on the forums and in-game) and they've taken previous feedback on board. We just need to keep pushing to get the full message across and make sure things don't slide backwards.

(Also, that Roegadyn gentleman in the Thavnairian set looks great, and yours would look good in a dark colour too - the Thavnairian dance is unisex and it practically begs for beautiful, flowing clothes!)

While I agree, as I've stated before, just dumping one sex into gear for the other wont be a fix all.

I just want to point this out to everyone who is complaining that the Aymeric coat is gender locked: In 6-8 months time females will get Yda's red outfit exclusively, as well as the Edda outfit some time in the future, you had better be championing for those to be unisex too. Males don't get many exclusive outfits so please don't come out of the cracks as soon as it affects you and suddenly call this a problem. At least as a positive, while the devs are not taking away gear exclusivity, especially on cosplay outfits, I would like to think that they are being a bit more mindful on original outfits these days.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain why it's good to have exclusive outfits for either gender. This isn't a zero-sum game.

Cosplay outfits specifically are designed for the model of that gender, female outfits especially would have to be edited drastically to make sense on a male frame, and while male outfits on females are more feasible (sometimes), this limitation would mean that two separate outfits would still need to be developed.

That's really because none of us can; it's Square-Enix's preference. I'm anti-exclusives in general but those who have argued against me have presented these points (I disagree with all of them and am only standing against Aymeric's being unlocked for completely desperate political reasons):

    - The belief that clothes will be better tailored to the aesthetic of each gender if they are locked (tomboys and pretty boys need not apply).
    - Relatedly, unisex gear is supposedly forcing male characters to look effeminate already and it apparently destroys the game for highly sensitive people.
    - The belief that we will get more varied gear if they're spending half as long on each new glamour design.
    - The sense of smugness in choosing the 'correct' gender for your intended look, even if you could not have known in advance and it's pure luck.
    - Satisfaction in knowing some other people can't have what you have.
    - The belief that restrictions increase diversity (I don't understand this but it pops up in every restriction-related thread, including race/job restrictions).

The original argument basically went like this:

"Can we have everything unlocked? The girls have more clothes."
"Good news! We have heard the complaints and will reduce the number of clothes for girls in the cash shop to compensate for the imbalance in the game."
    "?!?"
    "Please look forward to it."

Ultimately I think we need to argue the point from a position of rejecting all needless restrictions rather than asking for one-off benefits for the most advantaged. There's form for them kind of missing the point here, and those of us invested in the ongoing debate for ages know exactly what comes next if they do.

"We've heard the demand for the Aymeric outfit, and good news - soon female characters will be able to use that! And Krile's will be female-only, and we'll unlock Thancred's HW one too, because why not?"
    "?!?"
    "Please look forward to it."

That's fine, but it doesn't apply to outfits made up of existing in-game models that have female versions already, several of which (including Aymeric's) are already locked. So what's the argument there?

like how they come out with Aymeric coat and females are demanding it be for them too and yet never see any of these same females making a post of saying anything about males getting a gear set when they release female only ones.

Like Yda sure her red dancer look be added at some point and you'll see none of these women complaining it female only what it should be even if there some men who would wear it.

But yet they be thrilled when get it and be first one defending should stay female only when the men who want it start complaining.

This. Also, in the case of an event or very specific situations, gender locking makes sense in the context of the clothing's intent. Take the Songbird outfits for example. I wouldn't wear the male version as a female and I wouldn't put the female version on a male because they're dandy in their own right and follow the idol culture of Japan and how it's just supposed to work for one or the other.

I don't see male characters demanding Dragoon AF1 and AF2 to be changed to the male variant, what's your point? Of course people are going to focus on what effects them first and foremost as it's what they actually notice first.

And, who the hell is saying they are thrilled for exclusive female outfits? Pull out the posts I wanna see the receipts.
