I'm in the 4th category. I play FFXIV for the party factor. No point playing if it's too difficult to find a party. I've already left my character on Fabul due to the fact that the server is too empty to get a party.

FFXIV has nothing to worry about, sure the game will lose a few players at first, but as those subs start funding dev work and as better reviews inevitably come out this game will gain paying subscribers. I also have a few friends in the SWTOR beta who all say it's WoW with lightsabers, nothing special.

Indeed. Although, it's not even the development of the game they're looking to offset with the subs. Yoshi explained in one of his many recent interviews that the subs will help cover expenses like server costs and paying the 24/7 GM support.

I don't recall him specifically mentioning "we need the money to fund development" at all. To the contrary, it's been quite clearly indicated that they intend to see FFXIV through to 2.0 and PS3 launch regardless.

Of course, the haters around here will never acknowledge those facts since they do not support their rants and baseless assertions.

He told the plain and simple truth, this game is gonna die I've said it before, they have a strong player base of like maybe 5k maybe and thats not enough to keep it going look and DC universe this game wont be pay to play long at all. then all the so called "TROLLS" and flamers w/e the few blind ppl that like this game call ppl will be proven correct its easy as hell to see the fate of this thing and its sad after XI and was hoping XIV would be good.
Telling yourself something over and over again ("itwill be fine, only a few ppl wont be willing to pay") trying to will it into reality wont make it happen, but again you'll see =/

I fail to understand the point of these kind of videos. These "hosts" fail most of the time to actually deliver something that's worthy of watching - even if the content is good.

Anyways. I doubt the game will die. Even if 1 player is playing after the free period ends, it's still 14 bucks more than what they're making now. Worst-case scenario would be to see one of the two versions canceled. I think most of us know that the "real test" comes after the PS3 launch, and not in two months.

and SE will -NEED- 2.0 to do VERY well to make up for it or they will not fund future expansions.

but almost for sure population will seriously decline because SW:TOR is getting -really- good reviews.

edit: and yes, most people on these forums are white knights who convince themselves to enjoy the game because it is a final fantasy and because they have such a high emotional investment in it. SE could turn the game into hannah montanna's southern journey with a 0/10 rating, but if they left the final fantasy name and moogles these people would still praise it.
