Transferring to Balmung: A good idea?

I'm currently revolving in the Primal Data Centers and I've been thinking about mixing things up. I hear Balmung is one of the more populated servers, which interests me greatly!

I know it's infamous(?) for Roleplaying, which I don't mind the scenery of Roleplaying, but will I be expected to participate?

Comparatively, what are some key differences between Leviathan (My current server) and Balmung, besides the obvious?

Probably about 10k active players is the difference.

Balmung has around 26k active players and more then half don't RP so i wouldn't be too worried about that.

And the only real difference from Balmung and Leviathan is population and economy.

I was there from 1.0 until a year ago. I wouldn't recommend it. The community there is pretty bad, even if you don't RP. To me it seemed silly to be on the unofficial RP server when I don't RP, and there was too much drama for my tastes, so I left. I've never been to Leviathan but I'm sure the community is much more chill there than Balmung. Expect many Tumblr-like debates in Idyllshire.

Oddly, I have had a completely opposite experience. Way back when I first started, someone literally gave me a fat cat and gil simply because I was new. I still keep in touch with her over a year later. Likewise, I have come across more nice player than bad.

In any case, a perk I have to fancy OP is seeing major city states frequently active. Hop over to any of Ul'dah, Gridania or Limsa and you'll always see people. Even if you aren't interested in RP, it gives a nice sense of world building seeing people around. On the gameplay said, Balmung has a pretty sizable raid community building that favors the more casual to midcore audience. Something to keep in mind, our economy is like the Canadian dollar: i.e. laughable. What you'll see going for 1M on another server sells for 200k here. Still, if high activity and a more casual focus is your main goal, Balmung delivers.

I'd avoid Uldah. Being a male cat may or may not make it worse for you.

Quick addition...if you're interested in Housing you're SOL with everything bought up seconds after it's available.

See i dont see any of this, but then i moved shout and yell to seperate tabs. Its a lot quieter that way, and having tons of stuff on the market is nioce, makes it cheap

Aside from all of the above, I feel the Aether data center hits the fan more often than any of the others when new things get added (due to the sheer amount of players crammed here).

And no, you won't be expected to RP.
