lol ignore the trolls when you throw out all this bait cant help but to eat. and i helped my friend set up ffxiv on his mac and he sayed it runs great. You are missing the point of the thread. This ain't about me being special or not. And for your information, I am not using a different operating system to be playing this game. I am using Windows 7 through bootcamp on the macbook. This game will never work on OSX. Before you mock me, educate yourself first about how macs play games and then come talk to me.
I don't understand why people get upset whenever anybody brings the subject of 'macs' with 'gaming'. As long as they work like a charm on macbooks, I don't see the big deal. But of course, since this forum is full of PC elitists, trolls and people who generally full of hate and like to put different people down, this topic will be getting a lot of negativity and mocking.
I know all that, which is why my examples were of a media PC and multiple monitors (unusual) rather than, say, a smartphone and a toaster (unique).Except a Mac is a PC. Home PCs, whether they run Windows/OSX/BSD/Linux/Whatever are all PCs. For the last several years they have all been built on the x86 and AMD64 architectures. So a Mac IS a PC. The only real difference in this case, is the OS. So the fact he's running a Windows game under Windows, on a PC does not make him special. Now if he got it working with something under OSX, that might be a different story.
You implied he was somewhat special in some regard. He plays FFXIV on Windows on a PC. If he was running it on OSX/Unix, then that would be special.... unless it was something any average OSX/Unix user could do.
And actually, multiple monitors is quite common nowadays.
Just popping in to say I play FFXIV on my Macbook Pro and it runs about as well as you could hope for a laptop (stays around 30 FPS on standard settings + depth of field, dips into the 20s when I'm in Ul'dah), which is just fine in my opinion. This is my only computer, so I was pleased to find that it plays the game a lot better than my old HP HDX 16 did. (How's yours holding up, Andrien? Mine basically kicked the bucket after its screen stopped working entirely.)
I usually play under Boot Camp, but I've also gotten it to run natively using Wineskin. Performance is a little smoother in Windows, but Wineskin is nice for when you don't feel like rebooting, and it actually runs a lot better than I expected once I turned some of the settings down a bit. The only problem is if you like to play with a controller, you'll probably need a program like Gamepad Companion to get the joysticks to work correctly. If you're interested in trying it out, I used this guide to get things set up. Give it a try!
Macs certainly have their own issues (i.e. scant software support, lackluster gamepad integration, and of course the high price tag, among others), but having switched from being a lifelong PC user who thought Macs were totally annoying, I now find myself only booting into Windows when I either want to play FFXIV or run certain 3D modeling software. Later down the line I'll probably build a desktop PC to use for those kinds of things, but for now I find that having just my Macbook Pro has been a very pleasant experience. I think part of the reason Mac users often seek each other out in these kinds of situations is because we often run into unique compatibility issues PC-only users rarely have to deal with, so it's nice to know there are other people out there who can help you figure out how to get things working the way you'd like. Right now PC's are certainly the easiest and most economical way of playing this game (and yes, most others as well), but that doesn't mean those of us who happen to have computers built by Apple shouldn't get to play the game too -- and maybe chat about our experiences doing so and getting the most out of our setups. Plus, most of the time in-game you won't even have to know who's using a Mac (unless their character name is Steve Jobs or something...) so there's not much harm in there being one thread on the forums about it!![]()
I've always wondered how well FFXIV runs on a MAC. Guess it's similar to many other pcs >.>
Similar to other pre-built all-in-one systems. Not optimized for game performance, but generally "good enough". Mostly lacking a high-end graphics card.
Due to being not upgradable, this kind of computer is just not recommended for gaming.
Also, any mention of the existance of Apple Hardware should be avoided on game-centric forums, as this thread exemplifies. It just isn't worth the hassle.

the above should not be taken seriously under any circumstances.

I had post a reply at page 3 said the mac client is possible. As i have a mac myself and I do prefer to play the game on my mac with mac client instead of run it though bootcamp. But atm SE only release the game on PS3 and PC focus, from exp of ask for mac client from different game the answer will more like "depend on the sale". And if you need a vote for FFXIV mac client, you have 1 here
I don't think you really need to know what specific Mac models this game is compatible with. The specs are listed on the game box. Your Mac friends just need to know the specs for their computers, since Mac ARE PCs, and therefore the hardware are identical. Just look up what hardware their Mac comes with (gfx card, processor, memory, etc) and compare it vs the recommended/required specs for this game.

First of all, Doctor don't apologize to anyone. You were just curious to see (obviously because there is a smaller population of Mac players on FFXIV) who else is using a Mac to play the game and how they are doing with it. You were simply being attacked from the get-go and reacted to the trolling accordingly.
Kiria, your attempts at being funny are putting me to sleep. Your attempts at defending your point are futile because they are meaningless in comparison to what this thread is really about. Nobody cares if you perceive yourself as some type of gaming communist either ("I just saw people posting on the forums as Final Fantasy XIV players" lol don't make me laugh... what are you, the voice of the people all of a sudden?). I play on a PC and my brother uses a MacBook to play games through Steam, the Mac App Store, and OnLive; so don't tell me you can't game on a Mac. It isn't as awesome as gaming on a PC, but then again, he chooses not to game on a PC and fulfills the rest of his gaming needs on a PS3 and Xbox360. He mainly got the Mac for music creation (which the Mac can handle better than PC's imo).Hey man, all I said was that I like playing games, which OSX is clearly really good at since you have to run Windows to play the game. You're the one who started with the "negativity" by crying about PC elitists. I never once said you weren't allowed to own/like a Mac, I just don't because of the reason that I like gaming.
Let's just say I never tainted this wonderful thread with my "trolling" (protip: not everybody who disagrees with you on the internet is trolling), what would you have accomplished with the information? Maybe...20 people play the game on a Mac. So what? What does that information do for you? Prior to this thread, I had no idea you played on a Mac, nor did you know I played on a PC. I just saw people posting on the forums as Final Fantasy XIV players (well, mostly, lol). The information on what you access the game content is useless. Like I've said before, who cares? I don't care if you play on Mac, you shouldn't care that I play on PC. Computers are computers, yours just runs stuff differently than mine.
Sort of. I...see...you getting mad at this reply, because I don't agree with you.
I also see the thread being locked.
I'm like Miss Cleo, only less sassy Jamaican woman, and more Roegadyn Gladiator! CALL ME NAAOOOOO FOR A FREE REEEEEEDIN'!
The guy that started this thread simply wanted to know who else plays this game on a Mac ... that's it. You're the one that called him a whining elitist, when in fact, you revealed yourself as a snobby PC elitist. You may be in denial, but you are a troll. I, for one, am interested in this thread because I would love for my brother to play with me, and I'd like to see who else is able to run it through a Mac, and how they did it. So far I know ppl have used Bootcamp to run Windows 7 and that the game runs perfectly fine. This thread is useful, but you, sir (madam?) are a waste of forum space.

Sure an OSX client is possible, IF SE wants to write one up for a Unix based OS. Most companies however don't do this, because the market is much larger on Windows. ie it's not a PC client or Mac Client, it's Windows or OSX.I had post a reply at page 3 said the mac client is possible.
