I do have to wonder if the shoe was on the other foot though, and YoshiP happened to say he liked the flexibility that healers have on contributing DPS and that he wanted to find more ways to incorporate that into content...would we still be seeing so much community outrage like this?

Yes. The topic has two fairly clear factions and it really just takes any random spark to ignite the fire again. It has come up over and over without Yoshi saying anything, so it's safe to say his statement was simply another spark. One could have just made a thread suggesting healers should be left to heal now that 2 DPS are coming with stormblood and it would have the same effect.
