It's imperative that you understand this fact before you pre-order Stormblood. The moment you make that purchase, you will be accepting, meaning agreeing to, the terms and conditions that all your current gear will become utterly worthless (as far as iLevels & stats are concerned. Your memories & experience from doing the challenging content will still be intact, but I mean who cares about that right?) at release.

Let me phrase this in a matter that is more to the point - THERE IS NO BEST WEAPON IN THE GAME. Nothing that exists in this game is definitive longer than 2 full patch cycles. 3.5 is longer than the average patch cycle due to it being last patch before release. For this to be an upgrade in potential ilvl, should not be suprising. To find it insulting, well, is a difference of opinion I won't ever be able to change to agree to.

If you're leaving over this, goodbye. I strongly recommend you reassess your pastime and potentially real life values before you enter another online game - as you will likely be met with continuous disappointment otherwise.

This whole 280 thing has me wondering if people have played other MMOs before. This sort of thing has been common for years now.

We're in that time during the end of an expansion where loot starts getting easier and easier to get as it will soon hold little value. As an example, at the end of Warlords of Draenor there were demon invasions leading into the new expansion that were incredibly easy that could drop loot of the same item level as the last raid's hardest difficulty.

We're basically in the off-season, so I wouldn't worry too much about item power. I'd focus instead on getting glamour, making gil, leveling jobs, completing tasks or even taking a break.
