Seriously, 8 out of 10 people in my linkshell is going to stay and pay. The other two will come back to at least try the free version just before 2.0. This game is nowhere near dying. If the community was that bad it would have been dead already. Yes, payment will scare off a few people and we will at least lose 20%-25% of the players, but it is not going to die.

To be honest, I was hoping he had something to back him up beyond "they are going to be charging for it"... was really hoping for something thought provoking.

He is just a Star Wars geek, making his opinion out to be fact. Truth is he has probably never played FFXIV even if he claims so. He doesn't know how to open .pdf files.

I couldn't stand listening to the douche talk for more than a minute, so Ill respond to what I assume he said:

These would be valid pretend points if there were actually that many people playing to begin with The reality is that what little revenue that is generated by the re-institution of subscriptions won't be enough to cover development costs for the next year(let alone the previous). FFXIV will most likely continue being what it has been for a while now: premium beta.

If it was my decision, I would have held off on the subscriptions until the UI overhaul. Regardless of how much content they add or how cool all those animations that lock you in place look, until the UI/lag fix man-douche will have a point: badgame.
