I agree with the OP. It may not completely solve the problem. But It will help tremendously.

There's nothing wrong with every alt having a home in a system in which every character can and will have a home.
We don't have that system, so it is wrong for people to have multiple homes on the same server.

Kick everyone who has both an apartment and a house out of their apartment and refund them the gil they paid too please. I know people on Balmung who have a house, an apartment on their main, and an apartment on their alt....meanwhile, I'm homeless.

RP is actually one of the reasons why the housing crisis is a thing to start with. If a player has 7 alts plus their main and each character has a house that's 8 houses that are off the board, because of one player. That's incredibly hard to justify especially if let's say 5 out of the 8 characters aren't played outside of logging in and going inside the house.
Housing should have been instanced since day one, for whatever reason it's not is beyond me, but certainly going forward the housing issues will not stop, yes we will have 4 areas, but logically speaking here, a few years down the road when ARR is likely no longer needed, what will happened to houses in the current 3 cities? If over crowding is bad now, imagine what would happen if SE cuts out the older areas.

Instanced housing and there would not be the issues we have today, not sure if they would be able to do so now without alot of work?
I just checked out ESO as they have added housing (instanced) and it seems rather nice thus far.
Currently how FF is, many will be left out of housing even those of us who have missed passed few times.
Honestly, I'd have been nicer to have Mist, Goblet and Lavendar Beds offered much like the inns. You walk up the gate, purchase what you want and when you go in, it's an instance. The house, the garden, how big it is (upgrade-able from small, to medium, to large). Having neighbors running around and all are nice, but I actually see very few places where... you.. do actually see neighbors. Maybe this is different on the mega servers Gilgamesh and Balmung. Even with apartments, there were lots of people regularly around them; not so much now (personally, I see 1 or 2 other people at my apartment- my FC sees 3-4 neighbors throughout the week. Friend's FC sees none of their neighbors, any of them).
This could also potentially solve the issue Yoshi touched on when he said they wanted to increase gardens (either by size or the amount of gardens you may have, unsure because of the wording) since, you know, instanced to begin with.
There still would probably not be enough housing for everyone. Not sure how much of a stress putting something like that on the servers would be.

I disagree with this. There is something wrong when there's a limited resource (housing), that some players have multiple others have none. If housing was not a limited resource then multiple house ownership wouldn't be a problem but that's not the system we're working in. There's no justification for some players having multiple homes while others have to go without even one because of it. It's selfishness pure and simple.
How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?
This guy absolutely gets it.I disagree with this. There is something wrong when there's a limited resource (housing), that some players have multiple others have none.
