Welcome to the game. Let me add something to your statements you have made, since it's far from being accurate. Leviathan used to be a very popular and active server within the raid community. It was based more on hardcore and middle core (is that even a word? lol) groups, in comparison to other servers, that have more casual groups. This mentality was not just set in statics but also displayed on content that is/was advertised via PF, and people were very strict about that.

Not to go into huge depth here, but it defiantly was more "elitist" than it is nowadays.

Times have changed, a lot of very good skilled players/groups left levi and transferred to other servers, Gilgamesh as example but not the only server tho. Others quit and went to play something else. Whatever the reason might be, Levi is very quite especially during long patch breaks, or so called filler patches. PF is a lot of what I call "wannabe" advertisement, most of these groups that sound elitist, can't beat any content or waiting for people to carry them through it. Sadly to say, it's more of trap parties than actual fun or successful clear parties.

Most of our FC's are not active, and the ones that are active, aren't recruiting or recruiting only specific classes and with a specific player skill. You wont find a lot of people that like to run older content, unless they can unsync it, since they weren't able to clear it the first time around (as it was new and shiny). We do have a lot of casual fc's around, and at night time for example, most of the people online are crafters and gatherers.

One thing you're being correct with is, that most of our statics are players that play together since 2.0 or even earlier. Others are a bunch of friends, that will only add 1 or 2 people to their group, and than it's based on so called "reputation". If you're new to the game, and you can't show your credentials, most likely you're not going to be added to that group, unless you can show outstanding player skills during their trial runs. These statics are mostly not on PF, but interacting within LS's and FC's etc.

Now I am not saying its a server that is so bad, that you shouldn't join it, but if you're looking for more of the "elitist, hardcore" groups/statics/fc's out there, than Levi is not your server. It might change with 4.0 coming around, but most of the good raiders have found a home on a other server and not going to transfer back.

She did not offer advice relevant to the question. She gave no server suggestions, but only for me to "create characters and find out myself" type of comment.

There is nothing negative about suggesting to try out a server, but that was not the point of the thread.

For some of us, when you are paying roughly 15 bucks for a game monthly, whats another 18 bucks to throw at Square Enix..seems petty to balk over the cost of the transfer. I am sure we have all given Square Enix much more than 18 bucks over the course of the 30 year FF franchise. Just sayin.

Thanks for your in-depth response about Leviathan. Yeah, I believe even in it's prime, a hardcore raid type server is not for me. Thanks for confirming and clearing up some misconceptions about the server currently - great info!

Me saying Malboro has a number of new players and our Novice Network is fairly nice was a suggestion for Malboro :P
I can't give it a strong recommendation for you because you said you are looking for "a more populated server" and I believe we are considered "mid-pop". Leviathan and Malboro are in the same data center so assuming that you are playing during NA active times, there should be people around. There is a definite lull from ~1AM-6AM Pacific with the majority of people being on ~2PM-8PM Pacific. We are not a hardcore raiding server, which seems like a plus for you.
I don't really have experience with other servers so I can't speak to them.

The suggestion to create a new character on any servers you were interested in served 2 purposes.
First, it would confirm that the items you are concerned about are bound to your account. Create a new character, go through the tutorial quest, and check mogmail to see what items are waiting for you. That was the primary reason as that was your stated concern for not creating a new character already.
Second, while you are correct that we've all thrown a lot more than $18 at SE over the years, I've also seen a lot of stories with people who server transferred several times (with associated delays and costs) until they found somewhere they like and I wouldn't want you to be frustrated by transferring only to find you didn't like it. There was an assumption there that you have an account type that allows creation of multiple characters, of course.

I wasn't trying to be curt or dismissive in my earlier response. I had a limited time to write out a response before being offline for 4 days and realize I could have elaborated more.
