So yesterday I queued up for leveling since I've finally dusted off my Bard and am enjoying the class. Get Satasha normal, which sucks, but thats leveling roulette. You get what you get.

But the tank. Immediately takes off as soon as we load in before protect. Rude, but not unmanageable. Grabs huge sets of mobs and starts doing... some sort of individual focus on one mob at a time. Not flashing. Not using cooldowns. Not remotely trying. Dude has one dps class at 60, so its not his first dungeon.

Me and my healer friend try giving advice. No response. We all die because there's just too many mobs grouped up for a level 16 dungeon, and heals only go so far. We respawn, and agree to not move until he stops so healer can buff everyone. I'm annoyed because he has totally ignored us as far as I can tell, healers annoyed, and the poor other dps is stuck as well. We keep trying to offer advice, healer says that if he goes for groups that large its on him, and then he decides to finally snark back at us and start complaining. Says that if we don't like it, we're free to kick him and "wait 40 minutes for a new tank". Buddy, being a tank isn't Hydalyns gift to dps. You are just as replaceable as everyone else.

I'm about two seconds on taking him on that offer because his attitude is disgusting. My friend says to wait, give it until 15 to vote abandon. I'll give him a chance, screw it.

He starts flashing more and doing better, so we figure it'll be okay, and the run won't be completely horrid. NOPE. First boss (the coeurl) starts, he goes for every tree before I can say which to use, but whatever. Then during the boss fight he does NO rotation at all. I'm tanking the boss, telling him he needs to flash and use his rotation. I'm pretty sure he's just auto-attacking it at this point. He then yells at me to stop, and that was the final straw.

Could not get out of there fast enough.

I realllllyyy dislike when people beg for special treatment and then immediately start guilt tripping the moment someone doesn't do what they want completely ignoring the fact that others have needs as well and we have no obligation to just give you what you want.

I mean sure it is nice to help someone out, and I pass on stuff people ask for quite often, but you cannot expect everyone all the time to pass things that they might also need just because you "asked nicely".

I just healed The Lost City of Amdapor for the first time. (WHM) I watched a guide beforehand. The only thing that worried me in the guide was the last boss. I suck at memory. We zone in and the tank immediately starts running ahead doing huge pulls. I frantically try to keep up. I'm still learning my class and my gear probably sucks. But I do my best. I'm on the edge of my seat the entire instance, but I only lose one person once. Last boss fight we wipe because apparently several of us haven't done this before. The tank was super nice and marked doors the next attempt and we did fine.

Wow. I didn't have any time to stance dance or anything this run. Really pushed my skills. Felt good and made me anxious at the same time. I sometimes wonder what tanks are thinking when they do that. They just blindly trust the healer to keep up and the DPS to be good? I'm not mad. I'm grateful for the experience. It was just interesting and nerve wracking. I thought about speaking up after the first pull to let them know I might not be as good as they assume. But it all worked out in the end.

The moment those Players queue up in Roulette without a Pre-made Group means, they accepted the terms for :

Bad Players
Bad Healers not DPS'ing or DPS'ing too much
Bad Tanks that don't Tank or do some other weird Stuff
Bad DPS Players that don't DPS at all or do some weird Stuff

Having no Loot Rule at all
Other things, etc.

The World is yours in Roulette, if you abuse the Need/Greed Feature, do it, if somebody kicks you for it, you can simply Report those Players.

Is it okay to ask if the gear would be an upgrade for you? I was asking my group recently when running in Weeping City. Some of my gear was i200 stuff, so the gear drops in there would have been an upgrade. Though if someone else also needed it for an upgrade, I accepted that. Is that okay?

If I see someone could use the gear as an upgrade for their current class I will either greed or pass depending on how badly i need seals. If it's for an alt class then they should have come as that class so it won't change my roll unless its a very specific piece they mention up front or in a low level dungeon with sprouts in which case i usually pass on everything unless there is a specific item I want to glamour.

If someone asks for a specific drop (and it is not one that I also want for an upgrade or a specific glamour) then I will pass on it if they ask politely - I expect others to do the same if there is a specific piece I am looking for and no one needs it. If they ask for all the drops I would generally laugh and greed on everything as I need seals too. I would probably have told them no way at the start though.

Oh I don't have alt classes. I have full-out alts. :P Insane, I know. But it's just how I'm used to playing MMOs. I don't ask people to pass on glamour stuff. I just take my chances. I guess I'm used to WoW loot rules from back when WoW started. Need if you actually Need, Greed if you don't. *giggles* I'm so showing my age... xD

If something drops that is an upgrade for their current job, then they should be able to need on it, in which case I would probably greed or pass.
If it's a multi-job item (say, DoM or DoW) then I'll probably pass the first time. If I see they've equipped it, I'll continue passing. If not, I'll roll.

Confession time.

I have REALLY major tanking anxiety. Like almost virtually every dungeon run I go in as a tank, something goes wrong. Like I compare my own performance to what I see other tanks doing when I go as WHM or BRD instead, and the results on my end look really abysmal in comparison. Seems like I take too much damage even though I use all my cooldowns, or mob positioning goes all over the place when I have to dodge AoEs, which I imagine drives the melee insane. Then there's adds spawning during boss fights that I seem to be too slow at picking up.

Maybe I'm not cut out for tanking, and I should really take off this mentor crown, ha. I can nuke things as a Bard and I can stance dance quite well as a healer, but I feel like I literally cannot tank period. (I only really have the crown because I leveled Dark Knight for the story, PLD and WAR are both 40/50 in comparison, and PLD 50+ has been one heck of a struggle lately.)
