Mentor Players Kicking newer players from Duty Ques for low DPS

Just attempted to run Sohr Khai lvl 60 and my gear lvl is 202 so of course I am a newer player. First time running the dungeon and I stated so in the beginning while being friendly and saying hello. Got qued with a Mentor and before we even got to the first boss he/she stated how unhappy he/she was because DPS was too low and we couldnt pull bigger mobs for it. I stated it was because i was a newer player and it was my first run and then without warning I was kicked and removed from party. I re qued up and second time the same thing. Mentor was upset because of lower DPS. So i was kicked again. I have come to find that towards the lvl 60 dungeons people start kicking players who are newer with low gear lvls for that reason. I thought the reason we had Mentor Status in the game was to help newer players not discourage them from playing. I always watch a guide while queing to help others out and not be blind going in. Never had this issue until recently.

It is unfortunate, but there is really nothing you can do about it. Maybe one day you can report mentors and they can revoke their crowns for their abuse of the vote kick button.

Agree. Im honestly quite shocked something like that hasnt been implemented already.

Honestly, I would attempt reporting them anyway as they are preventing you from completing the dungeon just because the DPS is low. The only way they can tell if it's your particular DPS that is low is from inspecting gear (even then, you meet the minimum ilvl reqs), they brought in another DPS with them or they are using a parser. If nothing else, it will still cause a GM to investigate and see if there is a legitimate reason for the kicking to be valid here.

If it truly is being abused, things like this being a case by case basis, it will help deter players from continuing the abuse.

At the same time, not knowing the whole story, if you're not putting in effort to do good DPS, good rotation, knowing when to AoE DPS and more importantly, how to, I don't blame them for complaining. Unless your gear is broken, I still don't think that should warrant a kick.

People are not gonna like what I'm about to say....

First I wanna say I personally would never kick a dps for poor damage...but if they did do that maybe it would do you good to look up some info on your level 60 job. There are a plethora of helpful job guides out there just using google or even the dps section of this forum, I have used them myself & they make a huge difference. And always make sure to upgrade your weapon first as it will have the largest impact on your damage. And as a dps remember damage is your most important responsibly in group content.

I really don't wanna say this because I know it's a touchy subject & a lot of people are gonna get on me but would it be okay if you had a tank that didn't hold hate & got everyone killed, or a healer that didn't heal & got everyone killed? Just because a person chooses to play dps doesn't excuse them of their responsibilities. You can't just use the "I'm new" excuse forever. And in some instances, there are dps checks, where low dps will wipe the group. You did Sohr, so you're actually close to one of those instances now against a certain dragon...


Anyway that mentor was still in the wrong. They're supposed to mentor aka help. Not whine & kick the new people they're supposed to help. Sigh...

Not to be one of those creepers dude, but, looked up your character on Lodestone. Your gear is "fine" (used loosely- should really upgrade your accessories too), however you really need to get your lancer up to 34. Blood for Blood for the DPS, but more importantly, you lack invigorate. You have no sustainable DPS, especially an AoE intensive dungeon like SAHM (when you get to it).

Basically, you failed to do your part as a DPS, but came here to complain. It's probably situations like this that are why SE is doing the whole role system instead of the cross class system.

That's the problem with the damn mentor status in this game, just because people level everything to 60 they get the crown and are supposed "mentors" Even if they don't give a crap about helping the newer players in the community. However people like myself who has everything level 60 except for tanks cannot be a mentor. I love helping players, especially new players because I love and enjoy this game I want to see it continue to grow so I help where I can..I even know the basics of tanking, I'd even go so far as to say I know how to do it, I just don't because it's not something I enjoy, I've finished all current content, I've played since 2.0 launched but still can't be a mentor because I don't like to tank. However you get people like those who OP ran into who don't even deserve to have their status. I'm sorry that you had this experience with "mentors" Don't let it cloud your judgement..their are people out there that would actually help out :/

How to fix this? If a mentor is accused of absuing the status, or generally being unhelpful and toxic, revoke his mentor crown, take away his mount (or reset the progress for the mount) and lock him out of becoming a mentor either permanently or for a couple of months.

It shouldn't be taken lightly that people go under the status of mentor yet they belittle and create a toxic environment for most new players.

Okay. Where to begin with this one..i am dungeon grinding for gear...I understand I do not have all my cross class abilities but I FULLY understand how to use what I do have, which is songs in cases when needed, Iron Jaws to keep DOTs going and Barrage with Emphy Arrow..etc. I also watch guides so I know placing and what mechanics are going to be used. I am never "dead" weight as you are making me out to be. Being a casual player and limited time on my hands I am playing the game the way I want to play it. I meet the minimal requirements for a dungeon or trial then based on that I am able to complete the current Duty with whatever I have equipped. I am still a new player since when you looked you should of noticed i had only 1 character at lvl 60 and within my first 2 months of playing. So dont patronize me on my duties. I may only have 1 class but i do it as well as i can with what i got. Good day Sir!
