    Why you love playing healer

Not a question. A thread to pop in anytime you want to state why you love playing this role. Both career and non-career healers are welcome, of course! However, I do like to see my show of hands to those who do main the role as it definitely takes a certain kind of personality and tolerance to choose to use it for all/most content.

No need to limit yourself to one post, come in anytime you are feeling good about making this choice. Post an experience, a thought, aspirations, impressionable healers whether NPC or player, arms and battle gear. Your mind is the limit.

Because as a scholar, when things start going south, I can be an absolute GOD and carry everyone's pathetic bodies through.

One thing I can say is that the role is a natural fit for me as I tend to selflessly care for others, and put their needs above my own. I'm not a big fan of being up close and personal with a mob, and rather be at a safe distance and tending the wounded while unleashing my own wrath upon the opposition. It is by far the most rewarding and the role I am the most skilled at.

Needless to say, I am a career healer, and this will never change. My sole aspiration is not to be the best healer to ever play the game, but to be a better healer than I was yesterday. My favorite content is by far 4-man since it puts all healing responsibility on my shoulders, and I clash with like-minded healers as WHM in full parties, so I usually play as SCH when I know I will be the OH. I am perfectly ok with this as I love causing butt loads of damage while not accruing a whole lot of hate. DoTs are my specialty

I have yet to do relevant raids. I admit, I am a bit intimidated, but I know the time will come because I always like to put my abilities to the test as I get more experience, and my character gets stronger. Plus, those are fights are just so memorable. The huge bonus they provide isn't only in-game.

Hopefully, someday they will also do some kind of EX 4-man content. I would really love for my abilities to be tested this way. I just started HW and my FC keeps telling me to look forward to The Vault so can't wait to get there!

More or less this. I have so many tools at my disposal to either help speed things up with DPS, or salvage complete trainwrecks if need be.

Plus, SCH is a darn busy job. I love having things to press all the time.

I mean, to be completely honest, it started off because I wanted to be helpful and support the group rather than kill things.

That dissolved more into "I don't trust any of you saplings enough to do the job right!", nowadays.

I guess "technically," I'm a career healer? This is the only game where I didn't take a healer role as my main, actually. I couldn't deal with the anxiety, there seems to be a lot of pressure put on heals from the community.

I like supporting the team. If I'm in a crap party, it's satisfying when I meet the challenge and get everyone through alive anyway (although admittedly, I've only taken my WHM into 4-man dungeons at this point). Hell, some of the most fun I've had is when healer dies or AFKs, and I have to throw DPS out the window to pull the party back together.

But mostly I enjoy playing healer when my sis tanks since we've done the tank/healer duo thing since we were little kiddies. It's more fun when we can play in the same room and bicker at each other.

Also I don't really trust other healers now. XD I've watched too many of them (maybe half?) get caught up with DPSing and let the tank die. @_@; And then the mobs all come for me. T_T

I feel like this sometimes, but is honestly just how I justify my closet love for killing things. I often say my character has a split personality. One who loves to heal, and one who loves to kill. I just keep the latter 'contained' in a sense. But what it translates to on the field is when healing, I am looking for my opportunity to DPS, and when DPSing, I am looking for my opportunity to heal. Constantly. For me, it is always about casting the appropriate spell, at the most opportune time.

I admit, I have a lot of difficulty letting go of main healing duties to another healer, but it's not because I don't trust them. It is because I want that responsibility, and I will be damned if you take it from me. As SCH in full party, I'm ok with letting go (though I watch the other healer like a freakin hawk). I honestly don't mind healing derps and telling them is'otay so long as they learn, but there are definitely times I wish I could cast repose on another player. Or X-zone... either way.

Crap! As healer, I have killed friend, and foe. Is that bad?

There's something extremely satisfying about watching a group on the brink of death suddenly get new life when you time a heal just right.

I've never called myself a career healer but that's definitely what I am. And it's been that way since I started games with healer roles forever ago. It's extremely satisfying to be the role that can really make or break the party. I know that can be said about all roles when done well but in my opinion a really well rehearsed healer can elevate a team to a whole new level.

But I guess at the end of the day I absolutely love the WHM job because of its lore, its abilities and its positioning in the FF realms. Funnily enough FFIX/FFX were the games that really made me love WHM because it blended with SMN, which is my favorite DPS job.
