I always thought standard procedure was NEED EVERYTHING YOU CAN, GREED AND PRAY FOR EVERYTHING ELSE kinda thing... from my experience at least. I don't really expect people who can roll need but won't equip the dungeon gear, to greed or even pass on it out of the kindness on their hearts... especially when there's just so many things you need GC seals for these days. Nope.

EDIT: If someone specifically asks everyone else to pass loot for an alt they're trying to gear up though, sure I'll pass (albeit begrudgingly, to be quite honest)

Mhm, I found this a bit of an issue myself.

I mean, there are technically the following categories for gear:
Need for stats on main job
    Need for glamour
Need for stats on secondary job
    Need for currency (desynth/seals/gil)

Similarly, for minions or orchestrion rolls, you have:
    Need for currency (resale)
Need for completion (using it yourself)

At the same time, we only have the following options for rolling without the loot dropping to the ground:
    Need
    Greed
Not rolling at all (Automatically puts the item into someone's inventory among the people who haven't rolled)

And you can spin a narrative to assign arbitrary priorities to each of them. That's iffy. Until we get the issue solved via actual roll options, you gotta use your gut feeling on what is good and what is not. I personally advise making use of the categorical imperative.

This is just me, but I just have the habit of using Greed on drops instead of Need, unless it is a direct upgrade to what I currently have.

Someone noticed this and thanked me for doing so in one of my dungeon runs, made me all fuzzy inside, lol.

    Cheers,
    D.

Not sure, so, is it rude for me to roll need on dungeon loot for this reason?
You can roll need on whatever you can. You need the item, no matter what you do with said item you have a need for it. Doesn't matter if it is for seals, gear for your retainer, deynth, etc. You have a need for the gear and have every right to roll need on it.

I'm in the if you can roll need and if you need seals, go for it. I'm also of the mind that if someone else is gearing up and speaks up, let them have it. And very rarely has that caused an issue. Usually most people just assume if no one says anything it's free game.

I roll need unless someone asks if they can have it or someone else, who can roll need, actually needs it for gear progression. Those are the only times I will roll greed (or not roll at all). If someone really wants the gear, they can go in on a class that can greed it. I'm not going to twist my arm and slow down my progress just because someone else decides they need it more and refuses to communicate their desire for the piece.

Doesn't look like my first reply got added to the tread so sorry if I repeat.

Personally it does upset me when ppl lot need on gear just because other ppl need the seals too for what ever. I don't really mind if someone asks if they can at the start of the dungeon if they can, I just look at it like ok doesn't matter I can wait that little bit longer and I pass on everything to increase third odds on the items they can't need.

The thing that really gets me is when the whole party says greed only for something like diadem and then you catch ppl needing on the gear, I've seen ppl kicked for needing when it was agreed to only greed.

I've been working on 1 anima and have been looking at a second anima for either my whm or ast, haven't decided which yet lol

That's kind of why SE put in the Loot master option to avoid such a problem. Too bad dungeons only works if party is created not on Roulette

Considering the use of gear is vastly more than just "equipping it" it's fair to roll need on anything you can.
If someone else wants it they should be playing the job on question.

    Now here is the question......

What if the job on question isn't high enough ilvl to do that dungeon?
