I think it is more of a "I don't want to be wrong" complex some people have. He has already stated that we are doomed without protect so it is now his mission to try and die so he can claim he was indeed correct.

Snow Cloak,2nd boss.
Tank ain't freeze spriggans.
Dps1 killed every spriggans that spawn.
The healer and I kept telling mechanics to them but they didn't listen.
So we killed boss the hard way.
Took almost 10 minutes,Geez....
Had a summoner with an item level 55 weapon in Hullbreaker HM a few days ago. Did more dps than them as a paladin in shield oath. Even on AoE pulls.
Player
Me and a couple of friends went into Dun Scaith. They talked me into tanking. I'm 237 PLD, I said. It'll be fine, they said. We load in and there's another PLD whose geared roughly the same as me and a DRK whose geared as well as my NIN, I figured her to be around 262 and that she'd MT. After standing infront of DeathGaze for a little bit, I figured I figured wrong. A BRD pulled with Foe's and I went in. It wasn't too bad. We wiped once because of people learning the mechanics. No biggies. People are joking and having a good time. We keep going. We beat Death Gaze. Fending Helm and Gloves drop. Have the Helm, so needed on the Gloves. Boosted me to i240. We keep going with me as MT. Hallow Feridad, no problem, explained the puddles and someone called them out and no wipes. Fending Pants dropped. Wished I didn't roll on the gloves. And the Blood Sword didn't drop from the miniboss. Then we get to Scathach. People are still learning and we wipe a couple of times. And my connection is getting spotty. I ask if one of the others could MT. Remember the DRK that has better gear than me. She nopes out. Between my constant r;0ing and people dropping. We never progressed further. At least on the brightside I don't have any qualms against tanking Dun Scaith anymore and I got my drop.
Thinking back, the same thing happened during Mhach. I was getting tired of losing Fending gear and went in as a WAR and ended up MT because noone else would.
So whats the standard of accepting a bad choice but "it works"?
Was in a PotD 90-100 and a SMN was using Titan egi with two tanks and a healer (one tank and I deep red @ 70+, and one tank and the SMN at light blue 20-30), keep in mind they didn't seem to be a mean person - so I asked why they were using it. No response next floor. Asked again, no response. Deep Red Tank asks for them to switch, no response. So they get out of tank stance and say they can tank things. The other tank switches into tank stance and starts to tank, titan egi stays out. I'm not really happy with this because Light Blue Tank has got whopping 10K less HP, even I've got his HP (tank1@ 20,000 vs tank2@ 10,000). Finally I ask if they're new thinking they don't know SMN. They said this is their fourth weapon and they know SMN. I said okay then you're trolling? After a short pause add I'm not going to heal them until they switch. Saying we have plenty of tanking and we need more damage (especially as most of the damage is coming from the Deep Red Tank and I (Cleric Dancing ofc)). Finally they switched and said yessssir, and adding that no one has every made an issue about it before and that they've always passed before. I said thank you, and we need you for your job as we already have two tanks. They said whats my job!?! And I wasn't sure if they were serious or trying a snipe so just thought to be funny and say 1. to be cute and 2. to deeps. Called me a dick, thankfully they also apologized when I told them I wasn't trying to be snide.
But I started to watch them a bit, having played SMN before and watching end game ones when I can. I saw one akh morn and they used bane against single targets, not fester, and I don't think they realize that Misama II is an aoe around yourself and standing by nothing doesn't actually do anything.
So.. I try to encourage them with buffs with AST cards and such but the entire time I'm holding myself back wondering if I should say something, perhaps they think they know their job but they dont.. perhaps they just don't care at all but do really know their job?
I'm generally the person that says hello to everyone, very cheery, and up beat but it I guess being ignored repeatedly and then being called a dick because they aren't even trying to provide their duty to the party.. I was like ... Am I actually doing something wrong here? Like.. ? I get doing literally whatever you want 1-40 (nothing matters lol), but.. is it unreasonable to expect people to play their job a bit when you get past that? I'd rather not waste 30 minutes of our slow trudging forward due to low aetherpool to a wipe on the last boss because we can't manage to last through our reserves. (About mid fight I had to slow down my MP consumption to ensure my mp refresh could keep the party alive since we only had one resolution). To their credit they absolutely knew the boss fight as nothing came out to get them, they dodged all of the proper mechanics.
I've very often gave people polite advice when they're new, like provoke is a very misleading spell lol and if I actually know that job, like besides basics I don't know anything about monk so I wouldn't talk about it. But I dunno.. lol. This situation made me feel very off. I guess I don't feel okay if people are purposefully lazing about, I feel like you should do that in your own party with your own friends not push that onto others because you can.
Just to clarify I didn't say anything about what to do past the titan egi incident, and even thanked them again at the end. Is PotD do whatever you want content (feel like the higher tiers are not, since you can wipe and lose all 10 floors)? Am I wrong to be annoyed? Should I have tried to help out more or just assume they dont care?

"Ul'dah can keep their dusty markets, and their streets paved in silver and gold.
Limsa Lominsa keep your pirates, and your ships covered in musty mold.
My loyalty lies with Gridania, with the Moogles and the tree spirits of old." -The Forky Conjurer
As long as the player is not hindering your gameplay on purpose or is not making the duty impossible to end and, if that happens, he again does not it on purpose, he is free to play how he wants to play.
My rule of thumb, when pugging, is "deal with it": if things goes wrong, I just had bad luck and then requeue.
If they do things a way different that I'll do if I were them, it is not my business, as long as they are doing their job, regardless the "efficency" of their dps or what else.
Yes, sometime it makes your duty more a struggle than a speedrun, but when I accept to go into a PUG, I also need to accept the consequences, as bad players, the so called "n00bs", and anything else. On the other side, if you are making a premade party, you have the rights to decide who and who not can stay in the party.
I cannot tell you how much I feel disrespected as healer, when the tank casts Protect themself when party still not ready and Protect must be redone because still some member haven't got it. I also feel the tank may had used that cross class slot for something else more useful for his role in a party. But I'll deal with it, just cast protect when it is time for it, and go do the duty.

There are not that many good cross class options so I wouldn't take that too much to heart, I usually stone skin the party as paladin in pvp if there is no WHM lol.
Meh dd rotations is something I'm used to but I guess coming in at 30 aetherpool to try it once or wipe and fail all together content, with a pet that distracts the aggro and reduces an already low DD team xD.. I might argue that's not a "different style". Lol. We were far from speed run, I was thinking can we win run.
it usually was fine but a few times it drew aggro to them when it perished, and they had very low hp due to their aetherpool like two hits to kill. Which didn't help since I could out dps them myself if I was able to stay in cleric. It also distracted our tank, who I saw doing aggro management against the titan. Playing healer has made me happier in that as a tank I have bias for the healer lol (for comms). Although if a DD makes me check my aggro I take notice, I like that. Especially if I see they use their aggro tools. At that point I cry and pick one and praise everyone.

Trust me, PLD's pick up Protect because we don't have a better option. The struggle is real.
Anyway, I disagree to a point. I'm certainly not a pro by any means, but I would expect reasonable play from my party members. If somebody is just awful and won't take advice, I'll kick them and not feel bad.
Learning and taking advice is one thing. Actively refusing to use Fire 2 because you don't like it? Sorry, we can replace you. I've run into ice mages, bards who don't sing, you name it. And they are all confident that they can keep doing this because they won't ever get kicked. I try to prove them wrong.
I said a few pages back: If the options were Get Good or Get Kicked, we would see more good players. Carrying people enables their terrible play to continue.
