The Feast is SO much better without chat

I've noticed some players have been campaigning to bring the chat back to The Feast, so I thought I'd offer a counter opinion. I actually like it much better this way. Now, I realize the PvP crowd has already readied their pitchforks, but I would like to plead my case nonetheless.

Back when The Feast was released, I jumped in enthusiastically, relishing the opportunity to test my skills in an unrelenting contest of arms. However, my enthusiasm waned as the general attitude took a turn for the worse. It seemed like some people went to the arena with the singular purpose of unleashing their frustration upon the fellow players. I'm not averse to constructive criticism, but that - that was anything but. The endless whining served no good purpose, it was just frustrated players venting. Now, after a lengthy break, I'm back, and I'm having a blast. The reason is simple - things are much better with chat disabled.

I'm sure even the most hardcore fighters would agree - people were chatting entirely too much. It's fine to discuss tactics before the match begins, but few stopped there. The arguing, the back-and-forth often carried on well into the heat of battle. And you're not fighting when you're typing.

At one especially aggravating occasion back in the old days, I, the healer, had both DPS pounding on me for the longest time while my tank was busy detailing how much we sucked. And sure, people often conduct themselves in a suboptimal manner. It's annoying to see a tank refusing to pick up even a single medal or a DPS attacking the obviously wrong target. But you're not going to fix things by typing a few short sentenced - those sentences, though, might have cost your team victory.

You also lose focus while your brain is switching from murdering mode to chatting mode and vice versa. The Feast requires precise concentration from the beginning to the bitter end, and in that regard chat was undeniably harmful. It's much less of a problem now that new auto-phrases are accompanied by distinct chimes. After a while you don't even have to look at the chat to know what's being communicated.

Of course, auto-phrases are not an ideal solution. A bit more variety certainly wouldn't hurt. As a healer, I'd like a "I'm totally out of MP!" option to warn my teammates that now might not be the best time to rush into enemy base. Still, shortcomings like these do not justify abolishing this system entirely and going back to the way things were. The Feast is not a place for idle banter, and some people just wouldn't understand any other way.

Yes, we've all had those matches where players constantly keep on typing instead of fighting but they are few and far between.

Without Feast chat, we cannot co-ordinate attacks, we cannot even give a simple detail that can end up winning the match; every Feast match is different, no matter how many phrases Square puts into it, there will still be frequent moments where you think "I wish I could say this".

The Feast is not better without chat, the Feast without chat is a free-for-all with no strategy.

All of this. There is nothing more to add.

League of legends' in game chat is far more toxic at times. Yet I don't think Riot has ever even thought of removing the chat completely; instead they added an option to mute the toxic players and report them at the end of the match, so that if they keep going with their bad attitude they will eventually get banned.

Removing the chat completely is the easy way-out, but not the right one.

It's clear that the Op never played a Diamond/plat game in the feast , the chat is always the key to win , not by sitting and typing but Personal macros : my Melee telling me im going to burst mark 1 so we can go burst together / tell some1 u are the next 1 who gets medals / healer who says in case there is no mch brd that he has to die cuz he is out of mp / telling your team that some opponent has a lot of stack ( yes sometimes people can't see it fast) / telling your team enemy healer has no attunment/ purify .. These are just some example , the trashtalking is not a valid argument to completly destroy a game mode

This, even though I know nothing about LoL, but I agree with the post

There is always a chance of having premades enter randomly in randoms and have chat outside the game. Using range or magic DPS LBs can be helpful, talking about who to focus on:

also having the person below 100 to pick up some medals, there was one match I was trying to get medals so my team did not have as many people with large stacks and I couldn't.

As I said before PvE DF is more often toxic then PvP, just likely people complain more about PvP, in Pve people just expect you shut up when you are being harassed and say nothing to the person doing it.

I just started getting into PVP, and not having the option to chat is awful.
I don't know if I'm doing good or bad, I don't know what people want me to do.
I don't care if people talk trash about me when I suck, I need live feedback on my performance. I'm an adult, I can deal with it.

Exactly, people need to get a grip and not report every single trashtalk they receive.
