People don't like being told that they're doing something wrong and maintain that they will "play the way they want" because they pay their subscription: even if that means bringing the other players in their team down.

People don't like being told that they're doing something wrong and maintain that they will "play the way they want" because they pay their subscription: even if that means bringing the other players in their team down.

As horrible as it may sound, I have no problem telling someone outright when they suck. I don't exactly put it that harshly (unless you give me attitude, then I'll be a bitch right back), but if you're holding me AND the rest of the team back? I'm going to say something.

Great example of this: back when I was farming the bird, we were doing Ravana EX at ilvl 230+ and couldn't skip butterflies/Final Liberation (no one even knows how to execute the latter anymore because he's usually DEAD before it happens). After three wipes due to this and FINALLY clearing (which, though I don't like to brag, was completely carried by the healing of yours truly), I just flat out said, "Guys, the DPS sucks. You need to improve your DPS or I'm out. :/ " I didn't even call anyone out: I just made a general statement. Then a SMN and his buddy chimed in with the classic "we'll play however we want to" and insisted that I was an "asshole" and an "elitist" (and I believe those exact words were used) and demanded the proof I had that their DPS was so low (as if the proof of not skipping phases wasn't enough; you don't need to parse to know your DPS blows if you're not skipping shit in RavEX... at i230...). Then the party leader disbanded the party. Then the party leader, who was actually a buddy of mine, sent me a tell with their parses: the SMN wasn't clearing 800 DPS, and his buddy (a MNK I think) was barely clearing 500. So I decided to give them their proof: I sent them both tells saying a friend of mine parsed them and giving them their parses. Then I blocked them. :>

What ensued afterwards was HILARIOUS, though I can only report what others told me they were saying because I had already blocked them: they took to Idyllshire shout trying to bash me, saying I was an elitist, bad, that I would kick people who didn't live up to my standards, and that no one should party with me. All I could see: everyone else in Idyllshire instead making fun of THEM and several people who knew me basically saying, "Well, if she told you you sucked, then you probably did."

Moral of the story: there's a line between being an elitist douchebag and simply giving advice/making suggestions as to how someone/a group in general can improve. Most people in this game can't tell the difference. Even if you're nice about it, if you say anything that even remotely resembles criticism, people will get offended and throw around the "E" word.

Oh boy, one of these threads again. How about SE just makes the game 100% single player or delete PF? No one has to annoy anyone else ever again.

Or just don't join a party that requires something specific from players. Join the duty finder or create your own party with people on your skill-level. Stop being a drama queen

So you make other people waste their time teaching you how to DPS, when you can check it on a guide online in less than a minute? Shame on those who think like that.

Joining a party finder group you play by their rules. I think that is self explanatory. Of course using a parser is self explanatory too as they (SE) specifically stated it is against tos so don't complain if you get reported for using one.

Keep in mind, though, people behave this way in the duty finder as well. So people can easily run into issues as they are trying to learn the harder content. Watching videos only goes so far, while muscle memory and first hand experience with in game ques goes further. Fortunately, I've witnessed some stellar performances in duty finder with people and mentors helping each other helps offset the obstinate players who won't take helpful criticism and the those that rage because they think they are the god of playing Ffxiv.

Correct but how do those player know they are playing wrong all they ever here from random people is hey do this I've yet to see a single person go "hey you should visit and check out the guide for your class" as the tooltips don't tell you everything.

@Greedalox I'm a veteran mmo player and like all mmos they don't teach you how to play the game when it comes to high level content so this was my first stop when i decided to hop into raiding.

First of all, it's my time and I do whatever I want with that. If I want to help you I will, if I don't I won't, that's it. Since most of the time I'm a healer I don't think I should be the one to teach you how to DPS.

Second, when you enter a duty which is an expert trial or a savage raid there's something called having a bare minimum. You don't need to know the fight when is released (or even after a few months if you are joining a practise group but that's my opinion), but you should know how to DPS, have your crossclass skills, knowing your abilities and how do they work... This is not an expert roulette dungeon that you can rolfstomp easily while the healer does the most damage since it can AoE trashpacks easily, in this kind of trials you require a bit more of thinking, coordination and knowledge about your class.

Didn't we have those Sea, stone, sky dummies to test if you had the bare minimum?

If you are telling me that someone that doesn't even know how to play their class wants to practise Zurvan extreme, I wouldn't allow him. Sorry, he needs to practise his class first, how is he going to try to clear the fight if he doesn't even know how to do his proper rotation. After he knows his class and how it works then he can join, he has the bare minimum, he can practise those mechanics that make you wipe that he couldn't practise by himself.

I don't think the author of this thread is demanding too much.

It's always bothered me how much flack "elitists" get in this game (I'm talking about the people that're actually good at the game, not the ones that think they are lol). Like, I'm casual AF, but I welcome it if someone has some concrete advice for me. There was always sort of a "Raid Leader" in my old FC, to ask about rotations and fight mechanics, and everyone sorta... ignored them? Mocked them? And it pissed me off, because they didn't have to run Alex Savage with FC newbies. They've got their own statics and shit to do, I'm sure babysitting us wasn't on the top of their list of "fun ways to spend my saturday." XP They weren't jerks about it really, they were just very blunt when they saw you needed improvement, and for some reason people would get offended. :P (suffice to say, they didn't stay with the FC for long).

I dunno, I can't justify joining up with a hardcore party when I know I'm not that good, but at the same time, it kinda sucks putting up a learning party and getting stuck with people that take twice as long to learn mechanics and/or never bothered to get advice on their rotations. :\ It's sort of a catch-22 situation for us weirdos in the middle. XD

You just keep doing your thing, and honestly, don't give up on offering advice to the less skilled (even if you're gonna kick them, lmao). There's lots of people that'll just throw it back in your face, but I think there's also a lot that will appreciate it. Just make sure it's useful advice (I saw someone mentioning they direct people to look up a Job/Class guide, not many people realize that sorta thing is out there, you know?). XD I once had a WHM yell at me about not using Bane enough - they forgot about the Aetherflow stacks it relies on LOL.

I think it depends on why their dps is low. Now if it is a clear party and they are avoiding mechanics etc and dps is low, then I understand peoples frustration. If it is a training party and dps is low because they have hit X mechanics/died etc then I wouldn't judge it so harsh. Although if they joined a last phase training fight and the dps was low then I would also understand being removed.

I actually enjoy helping people get through Ex fights with people who take longer to learn mechanics. I feel it is a bigger achievement. I don't leave anyone out in my FC. If they say they are not capable of doing Ex fights then I will help them get through it.
