Jobs are a layer on top of the current "class" structure. no mater what label you put on the player, the weapon is what your gaining experience with. Savy?...rather than gaining EXP.
I noticed this in the 2.0 systems and content PDF on the big announcement. I've tried searching to see if anyone has talked about this yet but i wasn't able to find anything.
I'm curious what this really means. If it means that we will no longer exp from mobs at all, or if there will maybe be some kind of combination of the two. I'm not really sure how I would feel if there wasn't anymore standard grinding on mobs type of thing. I mean it could be good, but I'm not sure if it could be done right.
What are your guy's thoughts on the subject?

From what I've read and interpreted from Yoshi..
You unlock the Job for your particular Class. That Job is the same level as your Class but you don't get all the skills for the Job. To get job based skills/abilities you need to complete the specific quests for that job.
Example: 50 Archer, after completing the quest pre-reqs you unlock Bard. The Bard is level 50, but you have maybe 1 skill / ability. To get more abilities you have to do quests. So essentially gaining levels as a Bard won't actually improve your ability set only your stats.
My guess is that you still can level up your Class/Job via Exp parties / dungeons / stronghold etc.. but to gain additional skills and abilities you will need to complete job specific quests. There might be a quest at every level, every two levels, who knows.
Questions:
Will you be able to use your class skills / abilities on your job?
Will you be able to use cross-class skills / abilities on your job?
How many quests are there for each Job?
Does your Job maintain the same level as the corresponding Class?
I like how people seem surprised about this when it was already mentioned months ago.
Jobs are a specialized addition to your class, therefore since you have the class at 50 there is no need to level the job, so instead you will quest for your abilities and such. I'd rather quest to expand the role of my job instead of mindless grinding.
Hmmm... I was also surprised to read this. I don't like the sounds of it, because it's one of those things that hasn't been tried and tested. And we all know what happens when SE tries to reinvent the wheel...

Long as the quests are challenging and engaging, I'm all for it.
I don't want it to be like something that just takes an evening to get everything.

all job's abilities are new and exclusive, thats the reason they will shine and be used more in parties and add uniqueness to the roles of each member .
classes are a collection of skills you get from leveling a weapon.
jobs are a role you can open (either a new role of play or a specific role for your class)
You will open your job at 30 via quest and obtain new skills and armor probably every 5 levels from there to enhance that role in gameplay.

This is absolutely the way this should be handled. Hell, I wish regular progression was handled in this fashion - it makes a lot more sense than just mindlessly learning new skills when you've whacked enough moles and dodo's.
It would be a lot more realistic if EVERY spell and WS was only unlockable via quest, once you've reached the requisite rank. It would really flesh out the individual guilds as well.
Also, why can't we have WS and other skills that are company-specific, that you can learn through company quests? The Ul'Dah Uppercut. Serpent's strike. Mael's fury. Could be cool. Work them into battle regimens as an extra powerful attack when you combine the same skills or all three different ones.
Again for the 1 milionth time you are not lvling jobs........
You are doing quests just for skills and gear.
If you want to lvl MNK guess what you have to do.... lvl pug... your pug IS your mnk. You gain exp on pug and mnk at the same time. They have stated this many a time.

I prefer on the current plan, because imagine you also need to level your Job, it will be another grindfest all over again, say one ambitious person have all the classes to 50, and they now need to level up Jobs to 50 ;_;. imagine if in future the max level is 99, and you have to level up all classes to 99 *AND* job to 99... that would be crazy =.="
