In a recent translation done by Stanislaw. They talk about language servers and global servers. IF that is true...... DON'T DO IT! The player base is small enough.I don't know what its going to be like when 2.0 comes out, but I don't want smaller servers because of this. Right now we are sitting at 100% mixed community. When these servers go live, the global servers could sit below 50%. Thus making the servers even smaller. I think most westerners are going to keep with the global servers, but who knows. I know jp only like to play with jps(some of the time). I had many jp friends in ffxi, in fact I have a few in FFXIV right now(who know a little English). I like to meet people across the globe, this server change will make it where I will have less encounters of those people. So please reconsider this! The regional servers are going to be soooooo small(even if more people join the game) it makes for a boring game.

Long term, the game population is going to EXPLODE when 2.0 hits. With an successful marketing campaign, E3 display and player word of mouth, 2.0 should see a HUGE influx of players, both PS3 and PC.

Your small community concern is valid, but only until the shit hits the proverbial fan in a good way.

Exactly:

Short Term= Not a really good idea ( thats if they plan to not any further than this, which we all know is not true)
Long Term= When 2.0 Hits and the amount of work/advertisements they put into it, It really doesn't matter what kind of server they use ( in terms of Language barriers), because either way there will be enough for all)

They also said there will be Global servers too in which you can still have your mixed Languages, if you so desire.

Agreed, I love the global servers. Having folks in my shell from all over the world is a beautiful thing. There would be less of that with localized servers.

Its why I liked FFXI and XIV, I can actually interact with people from all over the world -- You can even learn a bit more. I personally don't mind Japanese only servers as it's my native language, but intermingling with other cultures lets me further my understanding and skill in other languages.

There's still going to be global servers, but it's pretty clear this will cause a divide in communities that's oh so present in other MMOs.

No, the reason WoW was so popular is because it took everything about MMOs, and made it so easy even a caveman can do it.
