What is with this game and half-naked women as bosses?

I dare say if they wear nothing on top nor bottom, they're wholly naked, rather than half-naked. Or are you just taking it literal and cut it in the middle and look if one of the halves is completely devoid of clothes?

Hmmm...I disagree. I'm not being literal, but this is a good example of how a term like "half-naked" can mean different things to different people. To me naked implies something more than a certain amount of visible skin. Both half-naked and naked imply exposure of parts that would be completely impossible in a Teen rated title. I'm not advocating such exposure, but the OPs original question makes no sense to me since I have seen no real evidence of nakedness in this game, unless we have decided that subligars are now considered half naked of course.

Awkward criterion either way.

I like to hypothesize that the idea behind these designs is to divert the attention of the "key demographic", aka horny males, towards the boss, rather than the mechanics and thus, create artificial difficulty. It's a devious plan and judging by the amount of wipes I had to witness on Calofisteri, a successful one, too.

I agree with your theory, but I believe such distraction is unnecessry, many, many players ignore, or are ignorant of, mechanics already no additional distraction required.

SE probably sees straight male players as the main demographic, so they add what they think this group prefers to see. Still, I wouldnt mind seeing less sexualised women or more sexualised males in this game. With the next expansion taking place in Ala Mhigo, we might meet a hunky male Ala Mhigan.

I am just glad that they havent turned any of the main female npc's into one of those fanservice females seen in manga, anime and videogames.

When I read this, I immediately thought about Brienne of Tarth from the Game of Thrones series, who shows that you can indeed be a popular strong female character without having to be considered stereotypically beautiful.

I actually had Brienne in mind as one of the few, notable exceptions. Though, admittedly, I personally don't care too much for Brienne's personality; she's a bit too bullheaded and uncompromising for my tastes.

From what I've seen of use of the term, "half naked" almost NEVER refers to an individual who's completely topless or bottomless. Basically, as long as you're showing more than 50% of your skin, you can be considered half naked. Heck, you can be FULLY CLOTHED in short-shorts and a halter top and still be considered half naked in some settings (for example, a Congresswoman who took the floor wearing such an outfit would certainly be considered so).

While you dug up some decent counterexamples, I think you'd be disturbingly surprised at how many find her to be pretty hot, if you can look past the fact that she has a flock of wolves for a head. XD Most of the rest are animals that just happen to be female. Igeyorhm is a good pick, much like Livia sas Junius - at least, if Igeyorhm is actually female. I'm not sure that Ascians actually have genders; while we refer to them by the genders of the host bodies they possess, it's unclear whether the Ascians themselves have genders (and even if they do, are they limited to selecting hosts that are the same gender that they are?).

but on a serious note i get it, the only reason why developers make it like that, is because its to appease the mass player base, providing a product for the current market, which is why Square Enix tries to Appeal to both Sexes... you will see more sexy males and females....
