Game is ruined (FFXIV 2.0)

If your game flopped it is a great idea to copy features from the people ahead of you. I don't know anyone who wouldn't do this with their business. I agree somewhat with the OP, that it feels cheapened that they are using features found in many MMO games out there compared to original ideas for things. As for me I am looking forward to the graphics engine and map redesign. That is something I feel is very original with SE and art design. Not a fan of Auto Attack, ! Fetch quests, Dungeon(Raid) finders. I do enjoy FF stories and creatures so I don't think the game will be ruined by adding these features, just not my ideal game.

FFXIV was good because it was UNIQUE.

Well, the problem here is that barely anyone is playing the game even though it's free. Imagine if WoW went entirely free tomorrow?

Square is a corporation looking to sell a product. The current marketing plan failed and they've admitted this multiple times over the last year. Thus, they will take a new direction. Really, it's not like the game is a big success and they're remaking it to try and make a bigger success. The game failed at astronomical proportions and "MMO failure at launch" and "FFXIV" have become synonymous. Luckily for them, Final Fantasy is a big brand name and they have the PS3 release up their sleeve. If they didn't have both of those cards, they would have pulled the plug on the game months ago.

"FFXIV greatly damaged the Final Fantasy brand name", straight out of the president's mouth. While you may find it "good", you are an insignificant minority given the fact the president of the company that released the game just said it's not only bad, but it actually damaged the reputation of the series that it's part of. Ouch.

Besides, everything "Unique" about FFXIV was/is just half-assed and poorly planned. The fact that they have to scrap the entire game just to put in a party search function is proof of it.

Market wards aren't "unique", they are an auction house with a middle man and no price history. Leves aren't "unique", they are nothing but daily quests with pointless timers and in limited number. The armory system isn't "unique", it's just the job system of FFXI based on changing your weapon rather than finding a moogle to change your job for you.

There really is nothing unique about any of that. And that's the core of the "uniqueness" of the game. Sure, you can equip skills from other classes, but that forces you to level other classes at the same time. In other words, it's like the sub-job system of FFXI without the flexibility of having to level one of the "basic jobs" to level 30 that normally end up as sub-jobs anyway (Warrior for instance, needed for a subjob by every PLD and DD, at least back when I played the game).
