Events Aside, Will You Allow Us To Do More With Wolf Marks?

I love PvP. It’s become my absolute favorite thing to do in game, even more than raiding now! But the one thing I’ve repeatedly lamented is that Wolf Marks generally become useless once I’ve gotten a few of the gear pieces/weapons I want, and even then, those are largely for glamour purposes. I’m glad the new event will see a use for Wolf Marks, but I’m asking (alone, but to all reading this, if you like the idea too, please show your support by liking this) in Stormblood and going forward, can we do more with Wolf Marks?

To explain it a bit better, and with gear/tier balances in mind, let’s use the current item level tiers as an example: The general flow is Primal weapons/Crafted gear & weapons/Normal Raid gear>Non-Upgraded Tome gear & weapons/Alliance Raid gear>Upgraded Tome gear/Savage Raid gear, i250 - i270, with i275 raid weapons. PvP gear could easily fit into the i250/i260 range, still leaving the upgradeable tome gear/weapons for future upgrades, as well as Savage Raid gear remaining the highest available.

Let it be said that the intent is NOT to give PvPers some kind of exclusive gear, but some kind of alternative means to upgrade their gear through their endgame activity of choice. As it stands right now, I like that I can cap both my high and low-end tomestones through PvP (and often without realizing it as I’m simply just enjoying the matches), but I would STILL have to run Normal Raids/Alliance Raids to get decent gear below Savage raiding, and after that, Wolf Marks just sit there. In the end, the PvE content does little for me as I’m already capped, and the Wolf Marks do nothing for me as the gear isn’t even viable for PvP and is generally just glamour purchased with a special currency.

So this is a formal request; a feedback to you if you will, SE, to please consider and tailor PvP as an endgame content equal to the various PvE endgame contents players can upgrade themselves through in Stormblood and future content beyond. It doesn’t have to be better than anything else, but at least make it useful beyond PvP (where it gets synced down like everything else anyways). Again, I ask this alone, but if anyone else out there would support the idea, please let your voice be heard. And this includes you too SE. Let's really get some two-way communication going here. Your thoughts on this would be equally as welcome.

I meant to post this in the PvP section, whoops!

As for buying PvP gear with Lore, I'm personally not against it, but I think you've missed the point there. PvP gear currently, at its highest, is i205, and like everything else is synced down to i180 in PvP. So it's really little more than glamour at this point (and there's been no talk of new gear at all, and likely won't be any before Stormblood). I'm not saying make it so PvPers can have it all (and I did note that it's not about exclusivity), but I am saying at least make the Wolf Marks we earn through the content we enjoy worthwhile. Aside from at least being able to (thankfully) cap endgame tomes, PvP - and Wolf Mark currency - is dead end content.

Right now, you buy a minion (that's untradable), maybe the orchestrion songs, and perhaps a few gear pieces you think look nice, but ultimately, they're just glamour as they're outdated (ilvl wise) and easily eclipsed by what you can already get with endgame tomes. So then what's the point of Wolf Marks as a PvP currency? Even if not gear, why not other items, such as items needed during relic quests or even crafting mats? (And I advocate this as someone who openly dislikes the relic quest and doesn't do much crafting)

Again, this isn't about exclusivity, but simply adding PvP into the endgame lifecycle as another viable alternative. Some raid, some roulette, some rumble. But right now, only 2 of those compliment each other.

Idk, I'm kinda on the opposite end of the spectrum. I wish they'd make baller exclusive PVP gear like the animal gear again, even if they don't make it rank-restricted again. I used to love getting whispers in Mor Dhona asking where I got my beautiful WHM swan coat - it was a badge of honor. I worked my nuts off to get rank 38 (for the i100 white swan), and then later because I loved PVP kept going for the rank 45 i110 black swan. In FFXIV's omnipresent design philosophy of "no player left behind", it was nice having gear that was relatively rare and exclusive. Of course, they later kinda took a dump on that with removing the rank restriction for it, but by then it was kind of old hat anyway and people still had to farm the Wolf Marks for it, so I didn't get my undies in a wad over it.

That's just kind of my selfish wish, though. I can acknowledge that a lot of people wouldn't want that scenario again, feeling like the outfits are out of their reach because they don't feel like PVPing. Seriously though, we have cash shop-exclusive glamour now...kinda throws the whole exclusivity argument out the window. Frontlines could seriously use some revamped rewards by now, my god.

Well said. We like to PvP, but in the end we still HAVE to raid (normal or Savage) to get good gear. Even people who like to use the Alliance Raids to gear up still get something viable, but not upgradeable from it. We get gear that's 2 to 3 patches old and currency that becomes obsolete once you cap or get a few things you want with it.

Imagine if crafting/gathering scrips were just there once you get gear with it, and nothing else could be done with them. No high end mats or anything. . . That's kinda what it's like for PvPers and Wolf Marks.

Put in battle Tier IV/V materia as a reward.

Tier IV buyable with Wolf Marks. Just tune the required amount of marks needed for exchange if they become buyable so it doesn't flood the market/make them worthless. You can get these pretty easily by doing beast tribe dailies already.

Tier 5s are pretty easy to get from various things already. (Potsherds drop really easily in PoTD101+ and WT pretty much hands them out.) Maybe limit it to one purchase a week (Weekly quest to win 3 FL matches. Win condition because people might just go in there and throw matches which just makes it pointless) if impact on economy is an issue.

Vouchers (An item bought with Wolf Marks you turn in to expert delivery for seals) or a system to convert Wolf Marks to Company Seals.

Not a bad idea man. Even that would be better than what we can currently do with them.

I don't know what they should add for Wolf Marks but they really need to add something. Once I got the Gear I wanted and capped my lore I just stopped PvPing cause there wasn't any rewards from PvP I wanted. Sure I enjoy PvP but I see like having a reward for my time.

You don't even need pvp gear in pvp mode. Why would want to? glamour? Just lose a bunch in Feast or Frontlines and your golden in 10 runs for a sweet piece.

Anyways on the pvp currency. It'd be overall better if they just made pvp materia and gear more useful besides the obvious piece of s&#* morale points and remove the restrictions on every pvp mode regarding them, it'd be alot better.

Materia as a bonus and Morale as a stat failed because it created a huge gap between players who got in early and grinded their way to getting the good gear and ones who didn't or were newer (this was also when gear was rank restricted too). Duels currently are an example of what it's like when players are not synced. The difference between an i250 and i260 DPS might not seem like much, but even if they're of the same skill level, the 260 has the advantage. That's why gear is synced and materia bonuses don't count.
