Since when did someone having an opinion other than your own equate to trolling.
When people say this game is unfinished and not worth paying for, they aren't trolling - they're being intelligent.

I just have to laugh at how people are so surprised at this. From the beginning, Yoshida has said, and I quote, that they will begin charging when they can:
...and that they'll have reached that point when they've:... provide a plan that outlines a level of enjoyment that will satisfy both us and our customers.
I knew we were going to be paying soon the second I saw the word 'roadmap'. And sorry I can't provide a source link. It was a translation of an interview the Japanese site 4gamer did that Eorzeapedia is no longer hosing, but 4gamer probably still have it somewhere if anyone feels compelled to go trawling for the raw version.developed a system where we listen to the voices of the players and then communicate back what we are going to do, how we are going to do it, and a deadline for when it will be done.

Exactly, finally someone who can think rationally and doesn't let his ego rule his mind.I for one am not gonna pay when they start charging..simply,because i have my reasons. But i am very sad for not doing so because i had high hopes for FF in the past,im just incredibly dissapointed that im not attracted to the game at all.It all just goes way to slow for me,im traveling more then im doing something else,i dont want to be a traveller i wanna be a warrior.Even a couple days ago,i logged in..and found my self being bored after only 30 minutes of playtime, and i really dont like me not liking this game.People need to stop being asses and call each other trolls simply for sharing their Opinions. All those people that threaten to leave now, once were travelling to the store with a huge smile on their face knowing they were gonna play FFXIV soon, and most of them now are dissapointed as hell.

i spend more a day on lunch and i was gonna pay a month after launch so no biggie to me. SE is giving us a ton of supportwhile they ready the real game.

Throwing around the term "paying for beta!" has become an activity engaged in by the relentlessly ignorant who, frankly, don't seem to understand what a beta actually is (of course, that's the case even when it really is a beta), but feel the need to bitch about something, and think throwing around terms like that makes them sound informed and clever.
In order for us to be beta testing the game, all content that is intended for the finished product (as in, 2.0 in this case) has to be in the game... only then could we be testing it. You can't test something that isn't there yet.
At this point, FFXIV is very much a live game that is being tweaked and improved as time goes on. We are going to be experiencing one-time-only content over the next months leading up to the launch of FFXIV 2.0, which will be an entirely new experience. At no point are we going to be "beta testing" the game.
What we are playing right now is a live game undergoing a number of changes. Systems are always being tweaked, added, replaced, etc. Even in FFXI, there were new and game-changing systems added, or existing systems being changed as time went on... no one ever claimed FFXI was "us playing a beta".
Further, this kind of thing happens in live MMOs all the time. EQ2 has had entire systems replaced and added several times throughout its service. They completely re-did the class system, from a progressive one where classes are unlocked via class change quests, to one where you select your final class at character creation. They've redone the combat system multiple times. They've revamped entire areas of the game on a few occasions. They've added new functionality several times.. and on and on. They did all these things to ostenibly improve and tweak the gameplay experience for their players. No one would ever claim that EQ2 players have been "paying to play a beta" all that time. Because they haven't.
Blizzard released Cataclysm, fundamentally changing a huge chunk of the game world, changing where some of the races start, changing the entire storyline and so forth... Many game features were added, tweaked, removed or replaced in that time, ostensibly to improve the game. No one would call the period before Cataclysm "paying to play a beta".
Lineage2 is about to have its largest expansion ever released that adds a ridiculous amount of new content - 400+ new armors/weapons, 34 new zones, 60 new raid bosses, 8 new classes.. old areas completely redone (cataclysm style), the entire game engine is being upgraded, etc. etc. Over the years they've made myriad changes to the game, tweaked, added, replaced and removed various systems in order to provide a better gameplay experience for their players. No one is claiming Lineage 2 up to this point has been "paying to play a beta".
And so on.
I realize those who are comfortably settled on the bandwagon to bash SE 'cause they think a game they obviously enjoy enough to keep playing should continue being free... but the reality is, we are not now, nor will we be paying to play a beta.
I'm well aware that wont' stop the die-hards from saying it anyway.. 'cause, hey.. why let reality get in the way of repeating their current favorite mantra? It's never stopped them before, why start now?

Then a couple areas were opened with a majority of the content locked off?
Open beta was the full retail release and there was no content locked off that was unlocked on launch.
But I won't be paying, it has nothing to do with me not liking the game or even money, but I just won't have the time to play.
I decided recently that I would be stopping in anyway and only found out that they would start charging soon after making that decision.
Even though I enjoy the game I just won't have the time for it and won't exactly miss it.

I was talking closed beta. Open beta is nothing more than a short term stress test to make sure everything can handle the load.
Other than the fact that the game is fun and entertaining, there's some brand loyalty kicking in there. SE has produced great games in the past, and promises great games in the future. In addition to enjoying myself now, as MANY others do, even if they lie about it, they promise me a whole lot more fun in the future. And I believe them. They said they made a mistake, and they're sorry, but asked us to hang in there, and while they have to start billing, a decision i'm sure came from above, they are offering us bonus content and an enjoyable game to justify it and help pass the time. I wonder how some of you got so bitter, it's as though you haven't spent months playing and enjoying this game already...

the money they were spending over the last year and are goin to spend in 2012 should have been in their budget from the start. They just started the game where other companies take 2 years longer to finish. And an online game from 2011 (or soon 2012) without a delivery system, slow ui, these slow servers etc. that isnt a finished game. These are basics and it will be a long time til we see that. I would rather call ppl a lost cause who blindly pay the development costs the company should be paying for.
With a desaster like that every other company would most likely give refunds or would have to pay the customer even...
But not the other way around. PC players compared to console players are getting more and more ripped of the last years with unfinished games and lame excuses. So it is a matter of principal!

50 dungeons? This isn't wow.. and this game is not worth paying for.. How can the community get better if the ps3 version is not out. Most ppl play this incomplete game bc its free to play and it has the name " final fantasy" Only thing it ever had good was graphics and you see where that has gotten it.
