Was in PoD on DRG with 3 healers. was tanking a lure trap and instead of healing they all watched me die. it was more humoring when we proceeded to wipe because they didnt even want to heal each other.
It was like a massive bystander effect.

Got aurum vale on mentor. Took 45 minutes because spending ages arguing about whether or not killing *everything* is worth it (it isn't) was totally the best plan (it wasn't). They ate bad breath to keep making snippy comments. The only saving grace was the bard dps who just got on with it.
Also, why do people automatically assume that the mentor tag means "full of crap"? Like I'm not allowed to have any dissenting opinions ever without that being thrown in my face.
I've never had so little fun in a dungeon. I hated it.
You got the "mentors" that only do it for the mount/achievement/roulette, who act like total asshats even though they are supposed to teach and lead by example, to thank for that.
I can count on my 2 hands the amount of mentors I've met in DF that actually explained stuff to new players and tried to help compared to the countless jackass mentors where I thought "why the f did this guy become a mentor?!"
It creates a certain imagine of mentors and it's not exactly a good one, which hurts the reputation of the few legit mentors out there who are actually interested in helping new people.
Good example:
Recently ran a lvl 60 roulette as scholar with 2 sproutling DPS who hadn't done the dungeon before - I couldn't even buff up before the mentor tank ran ahead, pulling large groups and not using any cd's giving me no time to dps, let alone explain stuff to the sprouts.
Upon my remark of "Could you please wait a bit before pulls to let me buff you and explain boss strats?" (something he as a mentor should be doing) I got a retort along the lines of "I got no time for this shit, go go!". - Wonderful!

I've recently decided to try some DPS roles for a change and all I have to say is holy crap the DF wait is long at times![]()
A few days ago I was helping someone with another anima and theyre doing the dungeon step. all goes well and such and then we get to Vault. hooray. I didn't really feel like tanking and needed a little practive on DRG, so I decide to go in as that.
level 58 unsynced DRK in level 56/58 HQ whites and a 59 SMN in assorted vault/aery dungeon gear. all in all, not TERRIBLE out the gate...
Well the first couple pulls go... OK. I pull aggro a couple times when I start using single target rotation after my AoE ran my TP dry, but before the first boss, The tank is ahead and just... stops. just stop... and then since we don't know what the heck is going on, the last group before the stairs comes running at us. and after like 10 seconds, the tank starts running around in circles just jumping. the heck? I've seen healers do that, but tanks? I told my friend if that happens again, I'm kicking.
Anyway we do the first boss and I'm tanking most of it. at this point I *coughcough*somehow*coughcough* knew i was doing roughly double the damage of everyone combined. not that my healer friend could help with that. aggro was everywhere and they had to keep everyone but the tank alive- tends to take more casts of heals.
At this point I should note... the tank isn't pulling very much. the only time they have more than 2 mobs is when the dungeon forces larger groups. so every pull is literally 2 or 3 mobs. Now "big pulls" isnt the point here. but it's important for the climax of the story here in a moment. just remember... 2-3 mob pulls.
So we're just out of the elevator and the 3 group mob before the knights at the 2nd boss gate... and the DRK has a total meltdown. I'll give the, uh... family friendly version. just replace every other word with an F bomb and every silly word with an expletive.
Tank: "what a dumb DPS always focusing the wrong target!"
Me/SMN: "what?" (we actually both said "what?")
Tank: "Tank and SMN attacking one thing, let me just go hit this brick wall with my face"
-Remember, kiddies, double the DPS of everyone. combined. You tell me how easy it is to tell whats getting focused before ~75% HP with a SMN around. I literally could not tell because they were dying about evenly. anyway, continuing.
Me: "It's 2 or 3 targets. I guess (Unleash) or rotating targets stopped existing after (Haukke Manor)?"
Tank: "I wouldn't have to if the DPS had half a braincell. The entire dungeon goes faster if you single focus the same thing all the time." (as a tank main, this hurt my brain. that's not how tanking, pulling, or dungeons work...especially after like... stone vigil at the latest).
Me: "only applies if you hold aggro in the first place. the "wrong thing" I'm focusing is dying at the same rate. You need to actually manage aggro."
at this point the tank is just hurling insults and expletives around instead of actually... talking, so.. no point in putting that out there. this is how it ended.
Me: "Look, the difference is, im not actively harassing you, havent slung an insult or swore at anyone. I can both report you for harassment and kick you. I'm also a tank main. I can replace you if need be, but I'll give you the chance to stay and get a clear."
Tank: "Oh man a big tough guy! 'Tank main'? No wonder you're so bad, you don't even know how to tank right!" (dude's -only- tank was DRK. GLD and MRD were both "-")
ME: "Well, I gave you the chance." -initiated vote kick
Tank: You can't kick in combat! -proceeds to pull
Well the vote already initiated so he get's an unmend off and then... poof.
The rest of the story becomes standard procedure. I re queue in progress on my own DRK and goes off without a hitch. kinda. The only hiccup was a wipe on the last boss because the replacement DPS didn't bother with the chain on the first pull so my healer friend 'sploded. but it was just the 1 wipe. Joke with the SMN at the end about how night and day the emnity management was.
At least they weren't a mentor...
The tank reacted childishly, but you're not exactly innocent here. As a DPS you should be attacking the same target as the tank regardless of whether it's "Haukke Manor" or not, especially if you were dishing out the damage you claim you were. Honestly, you just sound like another one of those snotty DPS who gloats about their numbers and then looks down on newer tanks when they - surprise, surprise - can't keep aggro because you keep going after different targets.
How hard is it to to look where the tank is attacking, really?
It does for several reasons. If everyone is focusing the same mob it dies faster. Which in turn reduces the damage the tank takes. Which in turn reduces the healing the healers do which in turn allows healers to contribute more dps. If everyone is targetting a different mob even a 3 mob pull will take longer than necessary to kill. Focus one down move on the next. Unless your at levels where you can rain aoe damage.
Also as a tank I pick targets on priority. Casters first. Dps beating a harmless melee mob when the caster in the pack is dropping aoes or dots on everyone makes no sense or things like bees should be downed first to avoid final stings and other mechanics. Dependant on mobs.
Generally in the vault should be aon almost everything so yeah the tank should be rotating combos. But on the smaller pulls you should focus one and drop it fast then the next.

Oh god no. Never. The tank's job is enmity. Their target should be based on whichever enemy needs enmity built on it the most. This isn't necessarily the mob that needs to die first. Tanks can and should be switching targets often.
DPS should be targeting whatever needs to die first. Those cultists that turn into bigger, tougher, more damaging mobs? Kill them first. Ice sprites when you've got anything but a DRK tanking? Kill them first. Bombs that will explode repeatedly? KILL. Freaking frogs with knockbacks on narrow ledges you can be pushed off of? KILL THEM FIRST.
Don't encourage bad play. It's the dps' job to not just kill, but to know what has priority to kill. This means it's dps' job to pick the target to focus on, not the tank's. If both dps are on the job, they'll be focused on the same mobs already. If a dps player isn't sure and needs guidance, don't follow the tank's target. Follow the other dps' target.
Oooh, shiney...
