Use magics to go on the offense? Check.
Use magics as to act as the CDs/support? Possible!
Use a rapier? Hey, two/thirds of the tanks are already using swords, why not add another? At least this one is piercing!

The mix of magic types is what primarily defines the red mage, so I'm not sure how that would be "no longer a RDM" if it started using those magics to grab aggro.

To add to this, I also did not like DRKs implementation. Soul eater doing the exact opposite of its signature function, and the job being MP drain rather than HP drain seemed off to me, but like I said, the devs can do what they like. My point is that nothing points to RDM being a natural tank, and they would need to bastardize the job (like they did with DRK and apparently SCH) in order to force it into the role, and then we get the "its not my RDM" and the "its just mystic knight" threads (mystic knight would be a far better suited magic tank btw).

A mix of magic types defines a lot of jobs, what defines RDM is its ability to fill the niches of BLM, WHM, and WAR (the DPS one, not the tank) as a jack of all trades between melee and magic dps, and healing, as well its ability to provide support to other players in XI. What you are thinking of is mystic knight which specialises in using a mix of magic types on itself to imbue its weapon either offensively or defensively.

Yes, let's just make every sword job ever a tank, that certainly won't make a lot of people angry

Honestly, I just want Green Mage just to see what devs would do with it.

As a veteran FF player (Almost 20 years playing all the titles) I'd agree with you. However, Yoshi wants to rework some concepts and I find that actually neat. Reminds me when I played Tree of Savior. Fencer was a tank, a dodge tank with some mitigation. If things are getting reworked in 4.0, I can see it as a parry and riposte, magic buffed, evasion tank for sure.

You can have SAM as a DPS!

I'd love that, tbh. I realize it's wrong, but I'd love it.

Tank is the closest there is to a "jack-of-all-trades" role, imo. Self-heals - which aren't potent but get the job done - and middling dps. They excel at staying alive, granted.

Didn't see pure thief on there so I picked chemist. Thanks to the Mudra system I think chemist could be a cool healer to play.
