Solo duties (specifically One Life for One World)

Are solo duties something that are going to continue being mandatory? If so, I may as well cancel my sub again. Solo duties should be optimized so that any class can complete them, but it's very clear in many cases that they are slanted one way or another. Some are easy for dps, and those generally have dps checks, making it difficult for healers and tanks. Others are geared more toward the tanks and healers - you can heal the npc or grab aggro, but leave dps hoping they can burn the mobs down fast enough. Challenge is one thing, but hitting your head repeatedly against a brick wall is another. And why is doing something solo mandatory for an MMO? Isn't the point to play with your friends? If I want to play something solo, I'll buy a standard video-game. It makes sense for class specific quests to be solo because it forces you to learn how to play your class, but these aren't optimized in a way that everyone will experience the same difficulty.

Now to specifics. I've attempted One Life for One World a number of times now. I tried it several times when I first came to the part in MSQ (I had just finished the previous patch's storyline a week or so after 3.4 was released). I got my ilvl up quite a bit and tried again. Same results more or less. I can keep the spell from going off by killing the bard and healer, but Alisaie still dies. The AI for the NPCs sucks horribly, even worse than a horrible PUG. Not only do they stand in AOE's, but they refuse to even so much as heal themselves. And why are the Scions all squishy? Look at the line-up going into that duty - I believe Thancred is the only non-caster. In other words, counting myself since I main bard, no one has anything heavier than cloth with a few leather pieces. The Warriors of Darkness have 2 NPCs in heavy armor.

All I can say is make sure that you are doing the mechanics properly. A big portion of this fight is to make sure you give your aether to Alisae when she asks for it and follow the commands they give you in text on screen or in chat. If you can't do that, then I don't know what to tell you. This stuff is tuned down so low, that its pretty much impossible to lose unless you aren't doing the fight properly.

Alisae has adequate aether. I get a message not to give her too much. I give her aether after she says almost there. That does not seem to be the problem. It seems like the WoD aggroes on her while I'm focusing on killing the bard & healer at the very end.

Please also note that your main is a tank, which means your experience will be vastly different from a ranged dps. I main bard.

i have done that with my healer and i have never healed any npc in there. kill them in the right order (healer (use silence on the healer when he casts a healing spell near death) > DDs (kill the black mage first) > tanks), maybe bring some potions to heal yourself and deal enough damage. you are already overgeared for this fight. i can agree that solo fights in an mmo are kind of stupid, but you should not have any problems to clear this fight.

This is the order I kill them for the second half (when Alisaie is charging up). Healer first, then whoever is keeping me from giving her aether (usually the warrior), then the bard & mage if I have time. Once we get to the final stage (when the Warrior says "Enough!"), order is healer, then bard, then mage. Alisaie still dies. I have only had the spell they use go off once or twice in the many times I've failed. All the other times, Alisaie just dies. As far as healing, I didn't need any potions the last run. I was doing adequately on my health. My first attempt, my ilevel was around 220, which undoubtedly explained some of the failures.

I can't give any advice about that particular Duty - haven't got that far yet, but in general my experience with the solo duties is that they are far more dependent on using the right tactics than what class/job you are.

I never had troubles with the solo duties (except for the lvl 15 fight in the beta, because that one was just ridiculous..), and I did them on pretty much any role so far.
Pay attention to what NPCs say, in the middle of the screen AND in your chat window, they usually tell you what to do (which might be different from what is intuitive at the moment).

For this particular fight, I did it on my BLM. I just killed them in the order of: WHM -> BRD -> PLD/WAR (whichever kept interrupting me at the time). By then I could give Alisiae aether and/or they regenerated and I started with the WHM again.
Alisiae never even dropped below 90% HP for me. There are a lot of AoEs that get targeted at you / your immidiate sourroundings, so make sure to stay away from her except for the short moment at which you need to run over and interact with her.

All I can say is my friend who plays a tank (warrior) struggles with the solo duties that I could sleepwalk through. The ones that are easy for him are hard for me.

Kill healer first, then the archer. After that kill anyone that interupts you while you feed her Ether.
