    Children?

I had a really cool idea that despite being difficult to implement, it would be REALLY cool to have!

We already have avatars of children (Klhoe).
Why not let married players work together to create a child avatar to follow them around like a minion? And for characters that are not married, the option of "adoption" would be available,
    costing Gil for adoption fees.

The child could interact with other children or NPCs. This could be just watchin them or be simple play.

I know that I would LOVE to have a miniature Etsumina following me around. This is something I'd pay real money for, too.

what does the rest of the community think?

Now, that wouldn't be too difficult, but if Squeenix were to outdo themselves as they usually do, I could see a /beckon providing a piggy-back/shoulder ride.
I could see them giving you missions or quests in the form of requesting food or a toy or a specific item. Successfully completing each task would fill a happiness meter,
    Which Gives EXP when full.

Equipping glamour gear made for children, or using some of the available glamours, would also be a possible idea, mainly so that it's your child and they're not wearing the same thing as everyone else

It would be a cool idea (one that's already being developed in greater detail by an upcoming MMORPG), as long as the children are not playable characters, I guess. Even then, I suspect there might be legal/ethical/rating reasons why child characters can't be implemented in a game like this, where players habitually dress up in skimpy costumes and engage in ERP.

And, in before anyone jumps in about how child pornography shouldn't apply to pixels, well, all I can say is that while such a thing may not be an issue for whichever country you play in, it may well be a very serious issue in other jurisdictions where FFXIV is sold. So, yes, it could be a legal minefield that any responsible developer would want to navigate carefully. I wouldn't be surprised, therefore, that Square-Enix would rather not want to go there in the first place.

Rune Factory Frontier literally had this exact thing. Your child would follow you around in the overworld, vanishing upon entering the dungeon.

Most games of that ilk (Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, and I think Stardew Valley) have child characters that you can interact with. Fire Emblem has child units become members of your army. So, I don't see censorship being an issue here.

The only things I see being issues are the fact we're missing child models for most races. No Roegadyn or Au Ra children exist ingame, and Lalafell children are just really short versions of regular Lalas. Also, boy Miqo'te babies. And, Elezen and Hyur share the same skeletons on child models.

You also have to wonder on how they will be designed. Would it be a stock of presets that slightly vary on parentage? Completely random? What about mixed race couples?

Also, what would be the point of going through the trouble? Most games that include children treat them as a sort of endgame reward for a romance section of the main game. Are they solely vanity? Do they affect other things? Can their existence help us somehow? Or are they basically virtual pets?

As much as I like children, turning them into mindless puppets that follow you around is a thought that I do not enjoy.

I would have no problem to be able to adopt some of those orphan children in Ishgard but only if they either just stay in the house/with the scions or if they stay where they are but look a little better and we could interact a little with them. But we are adventurers and it would be quite dangerous to have a child that will follow us around.

Even if I find the idea quite cute I dont think that they ever would implement something like that. I mean the minions themselves barely have any real content behind them and are just there. So for it to even make some sense they would really need to put a lot of work into this. And I am not sure if its worth it in the end especially since we already get one dungeon less for extra content.

Before they put that much work/time into such a thing I would find it better if they give us the path companions back. At least those would have some use.
