I agree with you wholeheartedly. Granted since I got my hands on some decent gear and am now whacking enemies for about 30-50 damage per attack at 24, soloing has become more of a chore and group play has been given a hefty dose of steroids, making a shit-load of progress in contrast to playing solo. It's a load of shit, I say, since my odds of partying up with people are slim at best, mainly because people are too busy with their own LS's or trying to down Ifrit at the moment. Just like every other MMO I've played before: I've been left to fend for myself. I read the announcement that things will still be changing over the next year, and I do hope that the solo-play aspect will be revived, regardless of the compromise.
However, like I've said in countless posts before: Being able to avoid all the elitist pricks (Particularly those who have polluted your thread with such degenerate filth) is definitely a plus. Thanks to a majority of these bastards - devs and players alike - I've been forced to re-roll as a Conjurer to compliment my brother's Gladiator, another god damn chore I don't have any time in my life to invest into. Don't get me wrong, I'm so thrilled that the rest of these assholes have all the time in the world to band as a collective of pricks and plow through leveling, gear-farming, and NM slaughtering at light-speed, but the fact that I've been forced to labor through such menial tasks once more makes me wonder what the future holds for SE when they favor one fanbase over another - namely those who have the time and money to invest into them.
I care not for leaderboard statistics, excessive hoarding of supplies and gil, or collecting aesthetically pleasing attire and weapons. The core element of every Final Fantasy game concocted thus far that has enticed me was, and always will be, the storyline. In contrast to say World of Warcraft, XIV and XI engaged me much more directly rather than being a passive placeholder in the grander scheme of characters from previous installments in the franchise (Namely having to run around, escorting NPCs and having them engage in dialogue supposedly entailing an epic battle between the two, but forcing you to do all the dirty work -CoughCough-Illidan-CoughCough-). However, if things persist in this fashion - making XIV more about being the top dog or earning bragging rights in a pixelated alternate reality - than the story and ease of progression, I can only see the Final Fantasy franchise being a haven for fanboys, fangirls, trendies and elitists alike which - like Activision has done with the Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, and Call of Duty franchises - only result in mediocre products released in yearly installments, oversaturating the market and constant trolling on various social networks.
All the while, money will flow like wine into their coffers and the beautiful art form that was once Final Fantasy will only become a hollowed husk and an aesthetic abomination.
I guarantee you that following this post I'll be trolled by a bunch of elitists ignorant of quality of a great game, or those who simply do so for the sake of it (Jaded dissenters or degenerates, take your pick), so for those who seek to incite such idle banter: I say fuck yourselves.
Addendum:
In reference to the damage I've been doing during solo play: It's actually more between 50 and 60 and my critical hits consistently go for at least 300.
