I thought about it like this as well, except when it comes to the melee, it's a bit harder to do this, but I'd like to see what you had in mind.
I don't think there is anyone who doubts this.
What I think is more likely, is that a class that is limited to the function of casting, is what they dont want to see any more. (And with SEs stance on instant cast ranged classes, we wont see anything with range abilities/spells, w/o some penalty like cast bars, any time soon.)

I am confused by your earlier post then, where you said "sarcasm off" and then said that BRD/MCH are casters, due to cast bars and remaining stationary..
-Sarcasm off-
We have 4 Caster DPS. yes MCH and BRD are casters now.
Saying they shouldnt be lumped together with BLM and SMN is like saying PLD shouldnt be lumped with DRK and WAR.
While I DO want more Mages, I'm not going to pretend there isnt enough ranged casters.
The very statement you quoted shows I want more Mages.
Why would I say this? While I DO want more Mages, I'm not going to pretend there isnt enough ranged casters.
And mechanically they ARE casters. (Just not mages)
If RDM and BLU can melee, then I'd be pretty content with "mages" and to some extent, limited "casting".
Also, My post is not directed solely at people who want magic users/mages, but those who want more casters.
You believe people only play mages for cast bars? (Im a bit confused here, as your next statement seems to be directed towards me, but is only about you liking BLM, rather than supporting the prior statement.)

I see, I was thinking of caster and mage as synonymous. I want more mages, but I am not holding my breath. I am not a long time final fantasy fan, but all of the magic users I want (necromancer, Mesmer etc.) are not Final Fantasy traditions. I personally don't like the look of a Red Mage or Blue Mage.
Agreed. I hear so much request for Red and Blue mage but none of it sounds like it'd actually be unique or interesting. At best, if the game introduces "subjobs" that slightly altered a current job, Red Mage would be a subjob of White Mage that trades holy magic for elements (fire/ice/lightning) to basically make White Mage into a moderate DPS with some utility. It still doesn't sound very fun.I see, I was thinking of caster and mage as synonymous. I want more mages, but I am not holding my breath. Which I think is the problem with most suggestions on RDM, they look nice on paper but would likely be boring and the same in practice. I think if you really want to have a RDM in this game, you should be looking for extra elements to incorporate into it (likely from other jobs that don't exist in the game) to meld with the concept of RDM...As for Blue Mage, I always disliked that job in its normal fashion.
