Fighting games, and especially street fighter do this all the time. Don't have the latest version? You ain't playing with your friends. Perhaps surprisingly, these are all incredibly popular for the same reason.1: Playing 2 dungeons a month (mostly 3-4 months). We're already doing that if you've been playing for a while.
2: Nothing. There is absouluetly nothing wrong with that, but separating people because they decide to play at a certain point in the game is absurd. Its like if I had buddies who played Pokemon White and Black and moved over to Sun and Moon. Now we have newer players that never played White and Black but have Sun and Moon and now for some reason they can't play with their friends because they never played White and Black. See how stupid that sounds???
I know what he meant, but new =/= relevant. What other people have been trying to say is that while everything will be *new* to new players, there is a looooong curve from starting a new character to reaching current (perhaps a clearer word than "relevant") content. Now, most people here don't seem to be advocating a jump potion where you create a character, chug some mystery juice, and go raid. Instead, it's more like looking at the ARR quests, which at the time of their launch were the entirety of the MSQ, and saying "you know, there are a few hundred new quests now, maybe we can tighten up the old stuff a bit." This would make it easier for new players to join the majority of the game's population that is in the current content. This is especially important if they insist on the asinine practice of gating the new jobs behind the MSQ. Imagine having to complete the vanilla story AND a whole expansion before you can try a job. The gear ladder would stay in place, the general style of the MSQ unlocking dungeons and making you do them would stay in place, it's just that instead of 284 (!!!) quests in ARR, there would be like 150~175 maybe.
"Hello, I'm auditioning for the role of Ser Aymeric de Borel, and I'll be singing Electric Chapel by Lady Gaga"
You just had insulted me. I dont tolerate this anymore. stop this immediatly. A twink is a common word for 2nd /3rd etc. chars ingame. But you dont seem to even have interest of a normal chat/knowledge about basic mmo words without insults.
Not even sure who you are insulting here. Me? New players? Why are you calling new players twinks? Or telling me not to make a twink? I've never suggested making a new toon, so that came from nowhere. Either case, not really a justified thing to call anyone really, so maybe chill out a bit from that other thread you have.
/edit: i had deleted the word please. i dont want to get another ban.
not really tho because wit a jump potion their friends could do the same as well and play with them at the same level they are own , i saw threads about a possible pvp server so why not a jump potion server1: Playing 2 dungeons a month (mostly 3-4 months). I was 50 before even touching the very start of Mor Dhona, let alone the post-50 quests. Your interpretation of XP distribution is simply incorrect.Sorry but you were doing something VERY wrong if you reached level 56 before completing the 2.1 - 2.55 series of MSQs. Those quests give you about 2 or 3 levels at most. If you reached 56 then you were deliberately doing other things to inflate your level. If you wanted to get to Ishgard to unlock a job ASAP then just do the MSQ and do it.
Except - especially for the jobs - it doesn't make sense in the context of the story. The jobs have almost nothing to do with Ishgard save for the fact that SE stuck the quest givers there.
Basic things like classes should not be held away from a player as a "reward" for suffering through an entire expansion's worth of content.
I don't want a "skip potion". I don't like level boosts as a rule, really, because I actually LIKE to level. What I don't like is being forced to follow the painfully linear and tedious MSQ regardless of my current level or interest.

This is simply not correct.
The three jobs all utilize the setting of Ishgard and bolster the lore of the city and it's surrounding zones. Removing the Ishgard barrier would require a huge amount of rewriting.
Gating jobs behind the story and a level grind isn't even a new thing to Final Fantasy. Basically every game that uses the job system does so, either via major story events unlocking more options or via skill trees. A few others force side quests for new jobs.
I'm really not sure what people were expecting.
Currently doing the AST story now... you're not even learning Ishgardian astrology. So far nothing would need to be changed save the location of the quest giver, who we could have easily met part-way to his intended meeting with the Sharlayan astrologian. DRK story is just doing edgy things to get back at snobbish knights - not a story intrinsically tied to Ishgard and that could have just as easily taken place in the area immediately surrounded the city. Machinists could have opened a shop in one of the Ishgardian towns in Coerthas. There's pretty much nothing about the stories that necessitate being placed in Ishgard proper.
As for what people were expecting - we were expecting what pretty much ALL other MMOs do with classes.
Just making sure it's not 666 posts but 667 lol
Except the AST storylines goes into detail about Ishgardian politics (Jannequinard is a son of high house Dzemael!) and the entire reason you are learning Astromancy in Ishgard is to spread it amoung Ishgard, as their's is a nuetered version of the same craft.
The entire level 30 to 50 storyline would require rewriting if the setting was changed, as the 50 to 60 dives into the messed up isolationist attitude of Sharlayan and could mostly remain the same.
And, as far as DRK goes, same issues! The majority of the 50-60 is based on important details that are Ishgardian in nature!
To be honest, that applies to almost everything. Replace location names or terms relating to anything, and it can usually apply to something else. It's not a very strong argument for anything beyond stating a creative option. Though yeah, if the lore bit was the only reason for gating, it doesn't need to apply (though it's obviously not a big deal if it is).Currently doing the AST story now... you're not even learning Ishgardian astrology. Even MMOs like WoW have some form of gating in classes, just FYI, given it's the only MMORPG of noteworthy mention (longest successful run and most expansions). Death Knights originally required players to reach lv55 before they could make one, before that req was removed many years later. Obviously the decision to do that still exists though, because Demon Hunters require a lv70 on the specific server to make one and that was just introduced in August (live servers). Gating basic options isn't always a big deal, otherwise there would be a bigger outcry by relevant players on the matter. Practically no one here is one of those relevant players, since we have access. Even if you make an alt, given you'd know what to expect as is, why wouldn't you know what's to come with MSQ reqs? Is the point of the alt so that one can develop further anger towards the game?
The complaint for not wanting to do MSQ to get access is not much further than the complaint of not wanting to level. They're both design choices by the devs and they're both gating functions. They're not needed, but they're also not much of a problem. Again, it's an intended design choice when devs do this. Their decision to do it trumps anything you or anyone else have to say on the matter, since it's not a big deal. They did say they were going to alleviate some of the gating that happened with HW though, so maybe they feel that way about the jobs with the upcoming xpac. That'd be nice if so, but we won't know until later officially.
