Unfortunately it's all part of the mmo model. One of the long term goals in a game like this is to get the best gear available, so you could gear up all your jobs to the highest level straight away that's an incentive to play every week gone out the window.
I guess I do keep them fairly low. Both my healers and dps are at i240 with a mix of hailstorm gear, alex creator gear, and scripture gear. Plus I was able to get Sophia weapons for all 5 of them over the past week. I've been reading all of the responses saying that I should just main 1, but idk the devs made it too easy to be flexible. Alot of the time I get bored of 1 class, so I just switch to another or depending on the content say for example Sophia EX I would bring the appropriate job to that fight(there is way to much movement for Blm).

I spread some of the new gear around to each job, but only loaded up on one job. The others will just catch up to some degree a short number of weeks later, without going quite as ambitious on the melds. The third raid of the Mhach raid series will be in patch 3.5 so that will have some equipment to consider. Before that you've got IL 255 weapons from palace of the dead in patch 3.45 for another option if you don't have raid or anima or eikon weapons.

If you want to quicky get to the new maximum ilvl, short answer is: you can't.

Now of course, you could obtain 1-2 gear pieces a week and every week, give it to a different class, but a year would easily pass before you would have every single class fully geared (any by then, the ivl would be extremely outdated already!).
That's why most people pick 1 main class that gets all the "best" gear first, while the more freely obtainable gear goes to the other classes they play.

For example: My main is BLM and to a certain degree AST.
Before 3.4, My BLM was at ilvl 240, my AST in the upper 230s (36 or something?), both wearing lore + alex gear, while the other healers as well as BRD and NIN and DRK were all at ~225 (wearing PotD weapons + a mixture of normal Midas, eso and Mhach gear).
Basically, limited currency (weekly savage drop and capped tomestones) go to the main class, while the more flexible ways to obtain gear go to the other classes

I mainly play healers so it's pretty easy.

Though the AF2 gear drove me nuts.

I just recently played though PotD with Dragoon, and found that I enjoy the job, but once I get it to lvl 60 how am I supposed to keep it evenly gear with my DoM jobs? Weekly lockouts would go straight to DoM jobs to keep them geared for future patches, and I don't have the money to buy gear from the marketplace.
DoW is a bit different because they do not share all the gear. It's your main stat really that determines if you share gear or not and tanks, ranged, and melee DPS are all built differently. Then you have DRG who pretty much has an exclusive set of their own.

The only way around it at this time is proper retainer, armory, and inventory management. By keeping a 'set' of jobs at the same level, you will not need to horde it for a class of the same type whenever you get around to catching it up. Use it, abuse it, and then lose it.

Arcanist also makes things interesting: Will you level your SCH with your healers, or your SMN with your BLM, or all of them together? But until the glamour and inventory systems are improved there isn't a whole lot we can do about it except make it 'less' stressful by not hording a bunch of gear.

I play one job per character and that makes tomes a non-issue. From there, it's simply a matter of how much time I'm willing to put into tome-farming, how much I care for ugrgading, and which Jobs I wish to play at the moment.

As they all say, you don't.

Under normal circumstances, you can finish one "upper tome" set (that means, the weekly capped tome set, including getting it all upgraded) before the next tomestone comes along, and *MOST* of a second set.

I got all of my Monk's gear to i240 before Scriptures came along, and I had a mix of i230 and i240 Lore/upgraded Lore gear on my BLM as well.

Right now, I'm crafting (and, for my retainers, SB'ing before I give it to them)complete sets of the HQ i250 gear. My Monk will, after I'm done SB'ing all three sets my monk retainers need, get i260 Scriptures gear. All of my other classes will have i250 HQ gear, which I expect will be suitable for leveling in Stormblood.

For those wondering, I'd saved up several Soul of the Craftsman, and I'm using those as needed. My biggest bottleneck, oddly enough, is not Lore, but instead, GC Seals. Every 4 star material uses 2250 or 3000 GC Seals apiece, and the sheer number of 4 star materials needed for the gear makes that a bigger bottleneck than spending 40 Lore on a 4 star material, and another 40 Lore on thee dissolvents, and another 250 lore on crystals for each weapon.

You don't really, you give your alt jobs hand me down crap that you scavenge from wherever and gear 1 maybe 2 with current sets per cycle. This is something that has always annoyed me about the remake of this game, the armory system is at odds with the way end game lets you gear. I mean, assuming you want to do hard content, for casual content being a patch behind on gear is a not a real issue, although it will go a tad slower.

If I'm not mistaken though, Scriptures are going to be HW's poetics and there is quite some time before expansion. So for now, I'm waiting on the last 24 man and just keeping up with scriptures. Then at that point I will start pushing on gearing my other jobs, hopefully getting a good portion of them in Scripture gear before Stormblood drops. Sucky part is, they will probably add some sort of scripture flush for the next part of relic, making this a pain.

Expansion preparation aside, I personally just pick a "main" per tome cycle now. If another job intrigues me I'll start tossing it gear from dungeons and lesser tomes when the next cycle comes along, dedicating the new tomes to that job, making it my new "main". Other than that, I don't really try to gear my alt jobs anymore, unless I plan on making it a main for the next cycle. If I could get current gear for all jobs this would be different but since I can't, I don't bother.

I think that is a safe assumption. Especially if it works out how Poe stuff did for HW lasting comfortably till 55 Aery gear. PotD will be nice for weapons for alt jobs too.

Honestly I kind of do a swap, like for example when Alex came out, I decided to gear up my healers by doing Alex while gearing up my summoned by doing Eso, I switch between each patch who gets the gear first and what not( I don't do raids btw lol)

Personally, I keep the other classes geared enough through older content to do the new stuff so I can take a break from playing just one or two classes.

Also, there is one way to have almost every class in the game fully geared up... Alts, you can have up to 8 characters on a server.
But that requires being willing to reach the Tomestone cap 8 times a week, and doing Raids (possibly multiple runs because of loot rolls) for weekly drops 8 times a week.
If you make an alt how long does it take to get to end game content? Also aren't you starting from square one (beginning of 2.0)? I might do this if I ever want to pick up tanking as well.
