Except there is nothing vague about Yda. She has consistently, in MSQ battles where she fights with you as an NPC and in cutscenes, been shown to be a PGL/MNK. There's nothing vague or "kinda like a PGL/MNK, ish, sorta" about her fighting style. She's a perfect match to how the actual PGL/MNK player classes play. So for her to be, from 4.0 on, written as "oh yes she's a dancer, she was always a dancer!" would be really weird and a massive retcon.

Now, if in the story, she was a PGL/MNK, and then later learned the (relatively similar) art of combat dancer, then sure, that'd work. But "she was always a dancer, we just couldn't say so because there was no dancer class"? Nah.

As for the trailer and info we've gotten: hot damn, I'm pretty hyped. Yes, it's mostly been system improvement stuff so far (and PS3 support dropped! huzzah!), but some of those are REALLY needed so hey! And what we've seen of Ala Mhigo looks stunning. I'm quite sold; the hype train can count on me being a passenger for the duration of its journey.

Unless of course said retcon was also apart of the main story ;P

For example, Yda has pretty obviously kept her face hidden the entire time we've known her. Perhaps, not only is her face something that could be recognized by others but, also her fighting style (ie. combat dancer as you put it) and thus she opted to use a more common fighting style. Though I'd argue her fighting style up till now has been rather exclusively pugilist. There really hasn't been any indicator so far that she's specifically a monk iirc.

Or they could go with your scenario, either or *shrugs* point being that it's possible and at least somewhat probable.

Of course this also hinges upon the woman in the trailer being Yda as well.

Anyone else notice at around 1:15-1:16 on the youtube trailer, the Girl-in-Red uses her sleeve (which has a metal blade attached to it) to attack the derplander?
I think it might be an allusion to the Cloth weapons from Tactics, which could only be used by Dancers and Onion Knights (in the rerelease).
I also think the metal blade is what she is holding on the games logo too.

Its most likely just cutscene flash and not implying that she is a dancer. The hidden blade gauntlet will likely be her monk weapon when we fight beside her during solo instances. They have been try to give major NPCs distinct looks and weapons to stand them apart from the PCs.

It's interesting that there is atleast some consistency with the cgi derplander. He's got a small scar across his left eye that I never noticed until the Stormblood trailer where it was alot more noticeable

The trailer seems to depict ala mhigo during a time before garlean occupation. This would suggest that the Yda we're seeing (if it is her) is a version of her from the past via an echo vision (not uncommon for CG trailers). If this is the case it's possible that she had not yet joined the scions and therefore does not yet have the tattoo or her aetherometer.

Well people say its monk and they very well could be, they are training from the looks of it so doubt she'd actually pull her blade out on him. However the idea of Dancer is still appealing because your going to be just as active and acrobatic as a Monk I would assume.

As amazing as that trailer is, I can't help but think back to how the HW trailer was and how that turned out.

You mean the non-existent endgame? We'll never never get it. This is a vertical progression MMO. Endgame is and forever will be just a couple fights from the latest patch and never more, unless they go horizontal, but clearly that's not the intention. On this, i feel your pain.

As for other stuff, i respectfully disagree. Story was cool. Dungeon design was better on the whole than the 2.x areas. I probably like Binding Coil more than Alexander on the whole, but ... i liked it well enough?

Its a Monk, also there are 3 notable MNK skills she uses during the fight, around 1:14 she uses Demolish, at 1:20 she uses Featherfoot and at 1:59 Fists of wind he uses Fists of fire.
