Agreed. Active threats would be much more interesting.
But...Eorzea is far from perfect as it is.
I'm not against a WoD faction, but I mean lets be honest, Eorzea is kind of a shit-show with all the stuff going on in it at any one time.
I like the idea of warring for land against the Garleans on the actual field though, with our victories or losses in FATEs or quests or events granting us or losing us land against then.
The four factions make Eorzea seem like it's lovey-dovey though. The Garlean threat doesn't seem large with those four factions all together. If the factions were warring AND you have to deal with the Garleans at the same time then there is some conflictBut...Eorzea is far from perfect as it is.

The Garlean threat doesn't seem large, yet all we've legitimately fought were scouting missions from Garlemald. The worldmap we have is JUST Eorzea, JUST one continent, and we're led to believe Garlemald has conquered most of the rest of the planet. From our perspective sure, the Eorzean Alliance seems unstoppable and amazing, but we don't know the size of our enemy; it seems a thematic waste to have the alliance fall apart when it is grounded on a "Our common enemy is strong enough we NEED a combined army to face it" mentality.
Good point but we are still waiting regardless. The waiting with peace in the world at present is the boring part. Will people stick around to actually see the threat? How long before we can have missions into enemy territory? The Garlean threat doesn't seem large, yet all we've legitimately fought were scouting missions from Garlemald. Well Eorzea isn't even peaceful as it is. We're fresh out of a war that lasted 1000 odd years, after helping a continent try to get back on its feet after the apocalypse rained down. I welcome the small breather we have before the Ala Mhigan rebellion.
Oh and don't forget the wars against the beast men are always raging, we just decide every battle we take part in because we're some of the most badass fighters in the realm. So it seems like small skirmishes and whatnot but we're just never around for a lot of the fighting, because we're elsewhere helping other people...end 1000 year old wars against dragons and stopping dark gods from taking over the whole planet.
All this to say I agree things seem peaceful right now though, but we're also above the noise at the moment.
EDIT:
What I want to see is Thancred really confronting us about the political nonsense we've gotten involved in. We're born to kill gods, and signed on with a private organization formed specifically to accomplish that task, but because of Alphinaud and us, we've become distracted with far more mortal affairs like the Alliance Battle thing we had where we fought Rauhbaun to bring pride to Ishgard.

I'd be careful with this post.
-Posting seeking to damage or disparage Square Enix, the forum, FINAL FANTASY XIV, or others.
-Posting content with the intention of criticizing either Square Enix staff or specific individuals.
-Taking any other actions that are deemed inappropriate by Square Enix in our sole discretion.

Basically, what you're saying is Square Enix fired their lead developer and spent tens of millions to overhaul the entirety of their game... for shits and giggles? You may have liked 1.x but the overall gaming community did not. A fact made evident by its very public commercial flop that nearly bankrupted the whole company.1.20-1.23 had the right direction, players were very happy at that time,
no one complain:"this content sucks, that gear is useless, I hate tomes", every newly added content is fun.
now this game is going in to a totally wrong direction, people complain & leave everyday
just look at the first page of Japanese General Discussion forum, the bottom posts are made half month ago
And look at the threads on their forum boast several hundred pages. The JP playerbase prefers to consolidate their opinions in a few threads compared to multiple ones. Nonetheless, you cannot base any game's popularity by its forum activity. The vast majority of people never touch forums. Those who tend to like something have little need to comment why. They'll just keep playing the game they enjoy. People who don't, however, want things changed. Therefore, they complain.
That 1000 years war would've been a nice place for a game. Why are we in peace time when we could be involved in that war? :O
