Right now, the system is completely barebones. I'd at least like some dialogue from the recruits instead of a generic information pop-up when interacting with them.
I will forgive everything if this later turns into some Final Fantasy Tactics mini-game of sorts, though.
This isn't about instant gratification. Some of us were enticed by the idea of taking NPCs through dungeons. A copied and more convoluted version of WoW follower missions was never in the cards.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Here's the thing, this is similar to the Palace of the Dead in that it's a new concept and method of progression in the game that actually utilizes your GC seals. There is at least a little strategy involved in preparing for 18 hour missions using the daily training courses since you can change your squad bonuses through them to suit the current requirements in addition to the fact that you can change its members. What I don't see a lot of people talking about is that your squadron not only upgrades their gear, but it looks like they can develop bonuses with the recruits that they repeatedly go on missions with. Who knows exactly where this feature is going in the future, it's just a little barren right now. Granted, who knows what kind of benefits it actually has since no one has actually gotten to analyze the long term rewards from it.

In my last post I said I am doing this for the promotion. This remains true, but what I have enjoyed the most about this is helping others progress their squadron. I was the first in my guild to rank up and most of the others in my FC have had troubles figuring out how this whole thing goes down. The common complaint is, "My squad is level 20+ but I can't even do the level 10 mission."
I've had to beat it into their heads that it is TOTALLY ok to reduce the points towards one or two stats to raise the other you need; and that level doesn't matter. Only allocation of stats and having the right group of four to meet the requirements of the chosen mission. When done right, you will go from "To be blunt, the squadron is not ready for this mission." to "This mission is bound to succeed!" in the three tries you get to adjust their stats appropriately. Doing this is where the challenge currently lies, and you want to try to get your squad there as quickly as possible so you can benefit from training w/o having to reallocate stats (this gives the most exp per training session).
Right now, I can't even figure out how level matters at all other than qualifying for rank up missions.
tl;dr: leveling your squad is easy, the allocation of your stats to pass your desired mission is where the challenge lies.
Been too busy to even give it a go. Seems fun but what are the rewards? If any and what's the point?
Well I often even forget that I still should sent them away to the mission..so not really liking it. I am doing it to get the new rank somewhere in the future since that one will probably lock out something which would make squardon's completely necessary..I had hope that we could customize the recruits, give them names and a personality..so in the end like retainers..but I cant even do that. They dont talk and even if those scenes are nice when they are training it got old quite fast. I am also still not sure if we ever will use them in dungeons..I mean they need to be intelligence enough to survive aoes and maybe do mechanics..I can already see that this would end up like FC primal summoning.
What I would have liked: Customizable NPCs that we can join on a venture..so we could have some nice little missions with them..or let us use them in content like the palace of the death or diadem..content that might be less used in the future. Using them in dungeon is nice if they can handle the mechanics but at the same time this would be so bad for the newer players..they need the dungeons to even go further in the story while the palace would be some extra side content..so no real harm there
No, I do not. Its pretty boring right now, the only hope that I have for Squadrons is that one day they will be used as Party Members in dungeons or in Open-World.
