I feel like 4.0 is going to be make or break XIV's future in regards to long-term players. What really worries me is that they plan on making all jobs even easier than they currently are. Toning things down and making the game more streamlined is fine and will be a great addition, but if all they do is reduce all jobs down to a very small and simple set of skills with no strategy or thought required I can't say I'll be able to enjoy the game at all. Especially since most accessible (non-static requiring) content is already incredibly easy (3.4 expert dungeons are a perfect example).

Content can be easy and fun, but personally I feel like they're struggling to have both these things. I think this could have a bad effect on longer-term players as there's only so many times one can run super-easy content before it becomes extremely boring. This won't really affect newer players who haven't been exposed to this kind of content though. I try not to think it because I'm sure it's not true, but sometimes I don't think they care about long-term players at all.

I don't think so. XIV is a good case of "came for the name, stayed for the game".
The only reason you joined an HNMLS was to get gil for hunt drops and loot for your main job for endgame. You joined a Dynamis LS to help the leader fund their relic weapon, which most dropped or quit the LS after they got what they wanted. But during those times you got sea and sky drops along with dynamis drops. The endgame goal of the relics were a pain to obtain. It took me 5 years before I finally got Kikoku on my Nin and I was happy about it, but I was equally insane or also irritated by how long it took since I farmed it myself, since you dont see any of that relic coin drops when you do dynamis in a DynaLS. Was it worth it? Yeah. If I thought about it now? No. lol.

The currency wasnt the issue. Getting the drops for the R/E supplies was the issue. The drop rate was a 5% on mobs that nobody wanted to do. Along with having to use the WS 100+ times in events, which the avg ws for certain jobs was dependent on what class you were on or what you were doing. Getting a Mandau was a pain because most THFs sack pulled instead of being able to really WS until after the clear. Which only gave you 30min or so after you were done. You waited til Full Moon or hoped the drop would come, which FM wasn't for 3+ days irl time and ingame. So you'd hope it'd land on FM on the night you went in or you were praying for drops.

I was fairly disappointed that the HM dungeons we got this time around along with Alexander and Sophie (non ex) weren't challenging and cleared on day 1 without any issues. Maybe it's that we have a good FC team going into the content, but still, I was expecting a lot for new content, only to be disappointed with how incredibly easy everything was.

You guys expect to have a dungeon that cannot be cleared on 1 day?

No, it's not that. I't just that dungeons like AK pre-patch or even dungeons like Pharos Sirius HM pre patch weren't that difficult but still somewhat of a challenge for some players. I'm not asking for the regular dungeon grind to be incredibly difficult with EX or Savage in mind, but a little more challenging than Snow Cloak.

...which is still not difficult, just random. You don't need skill, knowledge, gear or preparation to obtain a drop, you just need...to be lucky. That's no difficulty.

The difficulty of the "Expert Roulette" dungeons should increase with each patch. It only makes sense. By the time a player can unlock them, they've already run a lot of lvl 60 content and dungeons, and know their rotations on at least their main job. Giving us two face roll dungeons that almost anyone can clear on their first run on day one feels not just insulting, but like a rip off.

I'd appreciate it if you read my posts before passing judgement on them.
As aforementioned, dungeons can be both easy and fun. As I also mentioned, in my opinion the 3.4 dungeons are easy but not fun, and some others seem to feel the same way. There are a lot of examples in the game of content that is both, the final floors of Alexander (normal) are a perfect example. They have fun and engaging mechanics, whilst still being accessible to all types of players (whether frequent raiders or those who simply enjoy the story).

If you're going to comment on other people's responses then please elaborate on your stance. Why do you believe content such as expert dungeons cannot be both fun and easy? Why do you believe people who find the 3.4 dungeons too easy are playing the wrong game? Coming to a generalized conclusion before stating your reasoning contributes nothing to the debate at hand.

Dungeons in any game dating way back to the SNES have never been difficult or challenging, little more than glorified loot piñatas to beat on. Expecting a dungeon to be difficult in this day and age is giggleworthy. On that note, 'fun' is a very subjective term. What you consider 'fun' someone else won't, and what someone else finds 'fun' you won't, so there's not much point in discussing it.

Guess you should tell Yoshi-P he's been doing it wrong since ARR
See that, I just had fun!
