Egi Glamour is coming out for 3.5....

I do not mean to critical, I would like some clarification I guess because I could have it all wrong, but is all this rage over playing dress up for your summons? I mean I would like to have a house pet or something I guess but this is to play dress up with garuda/titan/ifrit? This is a thing? This seems like a certifiably niche idea and I can understand why they haven't prioritized it. I would think that all new summons would be amazing b/c we had a great deal of variety in XI. I have been around a while but I haven't followed this closely, like people are proper mad about something like this? Do the dresses do anything? I guess it is b/c I am lala and you can hardly see my glam let alone an EGI glam....not being mean just very confused. TY!

I wish they would just shelve it until 4.0 and just completely rework how the egi works and looks with the summoner instead of just an unending glamor tease.

I'd say it's the best option, actually... We already have a mage, tank and melee pet... Adding additional ones is going to be either broken or redundant, or both... Titan-Egi is already a waste of space, what the hell is Summon IV going to add that's worthwhile? It would take a complete rework of Summoner to work effectively, and that just isn't going to happen... Right now we could go up to Summon XVIII;

There is just no way Summoner can get that in a satisfying manner... Egi-Glamours isn't a compromise, it's the only way we're ever going to get those in a remotely satisfying manner... They could perhaps adjust skills to cut some corners, we don't need Bahamut-Egi, for example, because we've got Dreadwyrm Trance... Likewise, Resurrect could be adjusted to effectively be Phoenix-Egi, just add some AoE damage to it and change the animation... Something like that could work, but only for some... Change Eye for an Eyes animation to effectively be us summoning Ravana-Egi on a target, for example... That leaves the remaining Egi as an unsatisfying mess though... I'm sick of Garuda-Egi, give me Carbuncle plus the main elemental six if nothing else, and let me pick which I use... If I pick Ifrit, I get him for tank and mage too... I think that's more true to the spirit of Summoner, and it potentially gives us something to go out and collect, which is also pretty true to the Jobs history.

I wouldn't say a complete rework of the job would be needed to accommodate more pets, just a complete rework of the existing pets. The devs cornered themselves when they made Ifrit and Garuda so general purpose whilst giving Garuda a skill that was so fundamentally superior to anything the other two had. The solution would be to specialise the pets far more so they each have fewer uses but the Summoner always has a pet for the situation. I've seen other MMOs go through this exact problem with pet classes but I've also seen most find solutions rather than just giving up.

A simple fix to specialise the pets would be to focus them on either single target or AOE with either physical or magical damage. The fact that both Ifrit and Garuda each have an assortment of all of those is what muddies the waters and makes it difficult to know when to use which. As a result everyone just sticks with Garuda for the most part because the difference is negligible and Contagion is so useful. It's clear that very little thought actually went into the pets' abilities. They don't have clear roles at all (and melee vs range doesn't count as a role since range is always superior if there isn't something else distinguishing them).

Like I said though, I've resigned myself to that never happening so I'm ok just waiting for the glamours at this point.

Can you link that quote please? If that's true I'm done playing summoner. We aren't doing new summons because the trinity is already covered. Ok then why add new jobs at all if trinity is covered? First they strip the wheel from Black Mage now summoners are truncated into 3 tiny midgets and not a midget more added ever.

I can not find the quote aswell, but I remember reading it last year where Yoshi-P said during a interview that the team (developers) finds that the 3 (caster, melee and tank) EGI roles are enough and adding new one will be hard to balance and they themselves have no idea on how to make it work in FFXIV. To still give players something (after we complained about it), Yoshida said that they would work on a EGI-Glamour system, this way they can keep the roles, but the EGI will look different. The plans was to add them in 3.3, starting with Carbuncle, but it was pushed to 3.4 and now once again pushed back to 3.5.

We will not be getting a new EGI with new playstyle.

Egi glamour would be to (for example) make Garuda-Egi look like Shiva but maintain the same ability potency and effects. The glamour would turn all of her wind animations and such to ice to match Shiva. It effectively gives SMN access to Egi they would not normally be able to have as it seems we have been denied any more pets at least for a good long while. And really, looking back at how long we have had the first three and how many primals have been in game since the lack of pets is a bit unfortunate D: I too would prefer new pets but since they designed themselves into a corner over it I would rather glamour over nothing at all now :<

Correction: Never get excited for any Smn related stuff in this game. Anyone wanna take a guess at how long it'll take before they finally say why they didn't give us Egi Glamours this patch as they promised? Guess they ditched pet glamours because clearly it was far more important to make a camera with various features to take selfies and group pics to upload to twitter/instagram/facebook.

New summons would be better except that SE has already made it clear they will never give us new summons cause they don't feel like having to balance them with the other pets. The glamour system was the next best thing, but apparently even that is not worth doing. Smn will be forever doomed to be a glorified Green Mage with Happy Meal toys as pets.

Some of these people....I am really at my limit. I play SMN quite often for melting through dungeons, I enjoy it quite a bit... & I DON'T CARE.

EVERY PATCH "where iz da egg glam glam?1?!" WHO CARES?? I'D RATHER THEY ADDED NEW CONTENT WITH THE MAN POWER THEY USE THAN FASHIONABLE SUMMONS FOR ONE FREAKING CLASS. IT IS A HORRIBLE WASTE OF MAN POWER WHICH IS ALREADY LIMITED ENOUGH.

It's not like they're purposely not doing it, they just overestimated how much time it would take for it to be done & they're focusing their manpower on things EVERYONE can enjoy. Not a single class.
