Will the real FFXIV Wiki Please Stand Out

FFXICLOPEDIA was an indispensable resource for the years I played FFXI, what I want to know; where is that level of Wiki for FFXIV? Yes, I’m aware of FFXIVpro, YG, ZAM, etc… but none of them are as complete or as easily searchable as FCP was. It’s been a year now and still no single complete resource. There are some great item reference sites like YG (pre 1.19 – come on guys get on the ball), but nothing inclusive of items and basic game components, maps, basic job information, etc. from a single key word searchable input. Something as simple as “Oh what is “Perception”, let me check” or “I don’t remember is “Control” for crafting or gathering, humm?” Error nothing found… rant, rant, rant…

Yes I’m lazy, yes I want it all from a single source, no I do not posses the talent or time to do it myself.

Before I throw the name out there, there's a distinction you should know:

FFXIVPRO is expected to be an extention of FFXIAH - an economic resource.

YG and ZAM are Databases which read the information that CAN be read from the DATs and update them automatically. (The former hasn't done much moderating since december and is still using July's DAT packs.) ZAM does contain a wiki, but edits on it are scarce.

A wiki, however, takes time. The only FFXIV wiki whose owners still actively build and maintain is GamerEscape. As a matter of fact, Gahoo (resident admin and close friend of site owner Ganiman) is in the process of moving the entire item database over as we speak (to "dated" stuff, so we can begin again... (/fistshake)), and has recently revamped just about every single display template.

But, again, wikis take time. FFXIclopedia didn't pick up speed until about 3 years after the game had established itself. Wikis need users to fill in the templates the admins build with information they find in the game, and sadly, FFXIV doesn't have that.

If you'd like to help out, please do! However, don't expect too much too soon. It's hard to keep up with databases for standard info, and the easy access to basic DAT info only limits potential editors from stopping by. Make no mistake, though, as wikis come together, Databases limitations (and lack of moderation apparently) end up becoming even more obvious. Time at XIclopedia taught me that, and I'm proud to work with GE now.

The orginal FFXI wiki and the GamerEscape XIV wiki both have alot of outages or horrid lag because it takes around 10-60 seconds for a page to load on that site for me, any other website loads within miliseconds

Just a heads up. The YG guys said that they're gonna be done with the updates for 1.19 by the end of this week, so just gotta be a bit patient.

This is the main reason for me why I don't use GamerEscape. It just never loads for me or friends connections so its not really a useful resource.

That's good Do you have contact with them? They had a really good thing going at YG for the base stuff, but every time the game changed, they didn't clear the affected info to let it fill out again with accurate info - so much has gone wrong but it doesn't seem like anyone's fixing it.

The only time I ever have a problem with it is when Gani's got some maint. going on; at least recently. When we first made the switch to the private server it went down all the time, lol.

Eorezapedia, which now makes its home at a site known as gamerescape.com. We (I am involved with the site) were actually linked on the Lodestone a while back.

edit: I didn't notice someone else already mentioned us Gahoo is the go-to guy for the FFXIV wiki. The FFXI section is my main area.

The webmaster is working to address the technical issues. We'd really appriciate your continued support and patience while he sorts it out. I think you'll find that (as long as it's working) it very much IS a useful resource.

Um, OP when did you start playing FFXI? We were LUCKY to have resources like the ones that are available for FFXIV right now back when FFXI was a new game. I remember trying to figure out what the heck to do while looking through a bunch of different sites that barely had any good information and the best one was Mysterytour, which wasn't even all that great.

Like someone else said, the FFXIwiki that everyone came to love was not formed over night, it didn't even come into existence for a few years.
