DPS is flat out stupid. Bring back DD

My favorite memory of this acronym was back in WoW, trying to explain to somebody why it actually did matter how quickly something died in a raid.

This was in Draenor, and this guy was complaining that he couldn't use the finder because he couldn't clear the prerequisite tests (think Hall of the Novice). He went on and on about how unfair it was, because "raids don't have timers", but these tests did.

He could never get it through his head that raids DO have timers, even if they aren't a clock on the screen. Whether it's an enrage mechanic or your healer's mana bar, there is a clock. He never did get why DPS classes had to actually have good DPS.

DPS is short for a class that is designed for high DPS output. There are words with multiple meanings. Deal with it.

"I am a DPS!" - sounds good.

Sorry but most MMOs refer to damage dealers as dps. And dps can be used as both singular and plural in language.

Back in the EQ/FFXI days, we called them DD's. WoW (and more importantly the commonality of damage parsers) changed that forever.
