Because its a stupid issue, it wasn't tested, and its the first obvious sign that this dev team is still riddled with oversight. Its a pretty huge mistake to make a year into FFXIV's development.
GG there wasn't even this much bitching about AFBs in XI.
There are a lot of threads about this, but he does have a point with this quote lol. When you change your MMO from what it was before this patch, to one where you can hit the level cap in a day by doing mostly nothing but following someone else around.... there's bound to be some significant backlash lol.
No offense, but the XIV community will bitch about pretty much anything and everything. Remember all the "OMFG ARC IS OP" and "OMFG CURE IS TOO MUCH MP" threads when 1.18 hit? There are a lot of threads about this, but he does have a point with this quote lol. When you change your MMO from what it was before this patch, to one where you can hit the level cap in a day by doing mostly nothing but following someone else around.... there's bound to be some significant backlash lol.
OMG 5MIN COOLDOWN DUNGEON? OMG 5MIN NM RESPAWN? OMG DARKMATTER DUMB?
lulz.
Nope, but I didn't frequent these forums until recently. It seems like people think there's more outcry about this than usual though.
This is FFXIV bro didnt you hear... all the dev team/s that work on this game love making bad choices! They're are a lot of power leveling complaint threads, and i could post in there but personally i feel as though its such a major issue that they're can not be enough threads regarding the issue.
The worth of a max level character is a prime motivator for the experience grind, without an experience grind MMO's have little in the way of long term gaming. The easier it is for other people to gain access to a max level character diminishes the value of achieving a max level character. MMO's meet with little success if they're are no long term goals to be met and rewards that are disproportionate to the amount of time that needs to be investment.
The concept of power-leveling has been addressed as old as games such as Ultima Online, Ragnarok Online, and Everquest to name a few. The delusion that how other players choose to play the game has no bearing on me is a fallacious idea. The same way as letting other players bot and manipulate the economy (I cannot compete against a 24 hour gaming machine in an online game economy) is a flaw. Letting other players gain max level with 0 effort diminishes my characters worth.
I don't want to gain max level without effort but if i want to engage in endgame content I will not be able to compete with players who have access to all jobs at max level.
A large influx of max level characters makes it difficult for my traditional leveled characters to compete economically, access to higher level abilities, and equipment options. Other problems include, selling of high level characters for ingame and out of game money, poorly skilled end game players, limited number of people i can form groups with and meaningful connections with other players in a casual leveling scenario. And from a business standpoint short term monthly subscriptions.
I understand the concept of letting higher leveled players play with lower leveled players however they're are many solutions to this that have been used in other MMO's. A good idea would be to let max level players level synch with lower level players at the benefit of increased soul level experience.
I hope i succeeded in making my point clear, and that i've contributed to invalidating the argument that power leveled characters do not affect my online experience.
I trust that the development team will stand to reason on this issue, I hope they address it swiftly and quickly, however I am severely disappointed by the level of oversight this patch has demonstrated and on a personal note i urge Yoshi-P to continue to listen to the community and to be more critical of his personal ideologies.
I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!
I didn't read your post.
But I agree we need to revert the EXP system back to its original form.
The good old days when each attack gave you a "chance" for exp.
Not to be disrespectful of your opinion but power leveling doesn't matter at all right now. When this game is re-released, the 20,000 or so people playing this right now are going to make up a pathetic fraction of the overall population. That's when power leveling will become a problem. Right now power leveling allows developers to focus their attention on not providing low level content, which means they get to flesh out the end game content currently, and then work on providing content for all level ranges on the revamped world. It also allows players to adjust for mistakes in developer communication, or their lack of knowing about jobs that are upcoming in the future. For example, I'm using this opportunity to level up both CON and THM because I don't know which one is getting BLM.
The only current detriments to power leveling are the following:
#1. Lower rank crafting market is destroyed
#2. If people max all their classes to 50 when the world is revamped they won't have characters to do the new content with.
#3. Hurt feelings.
