Been leveling my WAR to 60 (three more DoW classes to go!) and the number of people who overwrite my Storm's Eye is infuriating. t.t
Pls ninja I want to make your damage better p l e a s e.

I honestly feel like this is more of a basic habit drilled into DPS. Follow this EXACT rotation or else, you know?

These are some old stories, because I've only recently come back to the game after almost a year away.

First Story: Haukke Manor normal. I'm playing blm on my alt (the cap at the time being 50 and I played end game blm on a different character.) the run goes fairly well until we get to the final boss. When the two succubi and the manor sentry show up somehow everyone but myself ends up dying. I pop my LB to kill off the remaining adds and proceed to fight Lady Amandine, knowing that this encounter was created before they changed mob casting behavior, allowing me to "Line of Sight" the void fire and void thunder spells. Casting my incredibly weak cross-class cure spell to keep myself alive whenever it was needed I ended up soloing the last 20% of the boss.

Second Story: Wanderer's Palace. I forget why exactly we were doing it, but a couple of friends and I had queued for WP(possibly for one of their anima weapons? I never did the quests for them so I am not sure if it was ever a requirement.) One friend is on her raid tier Healer, the other is on a decently geared BLM and I also am on my raid tier BLM. When the queue pops we discover that our warrior tank has less hp than I do. I tell him "Don't worry about it, but you are going to lose hate to me in every fight." We then proceed to completely mop the floor with the dungeon with me and the other blm bouncing hate back and forth to each other. Afterwards we gave the Warrior some gearing and tanking advice which he seemed to take to heart (or atleast didn't actively begrudge.)

I find it weird that so many of you get negative attitude when dpsing as a healer. I have ran 800~ dungeons as a healer and I have never encountered attitudes like that, in fact I think people like it since I get commendations pretty often.

But on topic: I did Sohr Khai yesterday and ran into a black mage that only used his lvl 50 fire rotation. The run still went pretty well although it was a bit slow. In the last boss we nearly wiped though because nidhogg had destroyed every platform but one(I have never seen that happen before). After the boss i asked him if he wanted advice and told him that he should learn his lvl 60 fire iv rotation. He replied with "I have tried and failed many times" to which I said that you should keep trying as it is a great dps boost and that there are good guides out there. He replied with "I don't like guides because I don't like other people telling me how to play the game, but i guess it is starting to be the only option". Before leaving I said that there are usually only 1 way to deal the best damage and he should at least try to learn that, using lvl 50 rotation is such a massive dps lost. He was pretty nice and actually seemed like he would try to learn it so it was not frustrating or anything but I still thought that I would share the experience here.

Did a VA run on my tank to get some gear n stuff since ive only recently gotten them to 60 etc

im literally minimum ilvl so my ability to hold anything other than trash is -4000 with the massive difference between myself and the best dps in the alliances.

Didnt stop the other tanks from trying to sit in dps stance the entire time and fight for MT messing everything up over and over.

they got so engrossed in fighting for Sawtooth dps were dying to the tree hitting them coz i simply couldnt hold it, and then they both died to the IK because their e-peen fight was more important.

likewise they ignored floor markers at final and held snakes together for ages until they realised.

I just wanted to secure myself some tank gear qq

What is it with PLDs and GLAs who refuse to even use Flash, let alone spam it? I know I'm overleveled for most dungeons, and even slightly overgeared at 130, but I can hold an entire pack in even the Aery with nothing more than Circle of Scorn, Flash spam, and using my Riot Blade combo to top off my MP.

So as BLM, roulette drops me into Great Gubal Library, with a sproutling PLD who maybe uses Flash once for each pack of mobs. I've never had to use Quelling Strikes so much, even while going through my AoE combo.

I just thought this was funny. The other day I was in a random roulette leveling dungeon trying to get my comms. My pc decided to overheat in the middle of it. Reboots, have to wait to get back onto Gilgamesh, when I finally get back on I see that I am still in group. YAY! I type in chat, sorry my pc overheated, thanks for keeping me! 2 seconds later, I get booted :P

Did Weeping City yesterday. We wiped on 2nd boss add phase. Why you ask? Because our tank (alliance A) put markers down for the add phase. A was very clearly on the east side, B mid, C on the west. Alliance C tank got very very butthurt that the A marker was on the east side and not the west (as he also went to the big A marker and proceeded to let the other add run free and proceed to kill us all).

The Alliance chat after that wipe was obviously very salty. Alliance C got mad and started calling our tank an idiot for following the markers instead of doing the "norm" and going west for add phase. Even went so far as to change the markers (after everyone in the chat said, who gives a fudge muffin).

It might be the whole "It does no damage", I know for sometime that was my issue, It seems like its good for initial but after that you need your hate combo. I have gotten over that now though. Where as DRK and WAR deal damage while doing an AOE. Might be me though.

It's just bloody stupid to me. That PLD could easily have held aggro from me if he'd just used Flash, but nope, instead I'm tearing aggro away just doing my AoE rotation. Forget going single-target.

There's honestly no need to go through the pain of trying to spread out Rage of Halone combos when Flash will do the job just as well, only without damage. Not to mention, having the tank do their job as a tank, lets the DPS do their job as DPS... without dying.

There's honestly no need to go through the pain of trying to spread out Rage of Halone combos when Flash will do the job just as well, only without damage. Not to mention, having the tank do their job as a tank, lets the DPS do their job as DPS... without dying.

But that is a false statement really. Flash's ability to gain enmity is WAY lower than RoH combo. Yes, spamming it will keep you with aggro 98% of the time, but if the DPS are hitting REALLY hard, then flash will barely keep the aggro because the build up is actually quite low in comparison. As for the particular PLD you had, I can't say for sure. They may have simply been not paying attention, but AoE makes things much harder for PLD tanks. We don't have an AoE that does dmg, so we attempt to hold aggro as best we can without relying on flash.

Yes, a tanks job is to get aggro and a healers job is to heal, but it's honestly EVERYONE's job to DPS. Knowing when to focus on what is a totally different story however. A good tank will spread out RoH to hold aggro and succeed in doing so. A bad tank will spam flash forever and use riot blade to supply MP. The tank spamming flash however will almost never lose enmity on a mob, but it doesn't mean they're a good tank. In fact, they're being quite useless for the most part.

I'd probably say your tanks were under-geared for the dungeon though. AoE's off the bat on mob pulls is harder to deal with as a PLD. But usually, CoS, 1 flash, and then RoH combo around on everything will hold just fine. So if you're tearing them off after that, it's likely a gear issue on the tank.
