Indeed. I can't believe people are complaining about the single most important change that has been made to this game. It defies logic.think you kinda made the argument for me, the expense is the balance. but anyway i think it has been said in later patches you will be able to put materia on raid gear. imagine it using raid gear to make materia then using that materia on more raid gear. and see how many materia you can put on one piece, you'll never be out of a dungeons with a challange like that
Didnt think about that.. good point. That would limit this gear to those with uber ranked DOW/DOM and uber ranked DOH... damn I kinda see why they didn't do this now. That would be a complicated bazaar request it seems...The problem with materia in R/ex gear is those who don't like to craft can't attach materia to their R/ex gear since it is untradable. Now if they made a system where we could throw it up in our bazarr or another menu and a crafter could from there attach a materia to your R/ex gear it would be fine.

Every Dungeon item, every NM item, all useless if they are unique/untradable.
A single materia of appropriate level in any crafted item makes NM/raid gear useless.
Unacceptable.
This makes raiding pointless.
There is no reason to do Batraal anymore. Nor kill any of the world NMs.
Is there something I am missing?

I'm about to buy 1000+ FFXIV copies just to give this thread 1000 likes. I thought I was the only one to think that.
What the game has become now (regarding equip) for who plays DoW/DoM:
1. Do content (dungeons, etc) just once: if it drops r/e equips is "good", if dont well... doesnt matter anymore lol
2. Exp your equip (Spiritbond) till you get the materia you want... (more exping even @ lv50 for everyone! xD)
3. Buy crafted equip, catalysts (eventually materias too) and add at least 1 materia to get the best equip ever... if no gil then farm mobs/leves for much time
4. Repeat 2 and 3 for all the equip you want... even playing ALONE! (lol playing alone for the best equip in the game is so... lol)
Now people wont b#tch so much anymore for not having many things to do (dungeons, etc) since the main content has become... equip grinding!
I'm not against the materia craft system in general: it's nice to have custom equips so everyone can be different from others. But I think at least 60% of the best stuffs should be obtainable as r/e by doing HARD things, fights with OUR group (LS/static party) in a MMORPG. Now 99% of the r/e stuff is useless compared to equips with at least 1 materia. Even the low-level NMs drop useless r/e things compared to mid-level materia'd equips.
I hope this gets addressed with 1.20 (jobs r/e equip?) or I'll simply stop playing. I wanna be proud of getting good items by doing hard, cooperative stuff with my LS / static party, not killing random mobs to exp my equip lol.
I'm missing Salvage, Nyzul, Einherjar, Limbus (...even Dynamis!) so much right now.

No "etc", just Sentinel. Others (Sorcerer, Sipahi, etc) are R/E.
And btw, coffer or craft, if they can be sold there's not much difference. They still can be bought and everyone can have them, even who never does content.

Man materia has been out for like 2 days the system is going to need some tweaking obviously but right out the gate? Come on...
I havent played in a while so I cant offer a solution BUT DoctorMoG I would suggest just doing the raids for fun(isnt that why people are supposed to be doing the content? because they enjoy it) and craft to get your Epeen gear. Atleast SE gave you content...poor culinarians out there still sitting there with their thumbs up their rears since SE STILL hasnt helped that class out after a whole YEAR+ !
I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!
They've stated before that they'll flesh out the system later, 1.19 was just the implementation. If I can wait for alchemist improvements despite what they did to our available recipes in this patch, you can wait for a more fleshed out materia system. FFS it's not even completely bug tested
I don't know about you guys, but I'm after Ifrit for the weapons. If crafters want to make me nice armor in the meantime, they're welcome to.

Also, Silver Tricorne has a materia slot (not sure about other world NM gear), so yes, there is still a reason to kill world NMs.
I agree with Doctor Mog and Eikiki.
There has to be some balance here: If Raid / Dungeon Gear is "the best," then why have Materia Crafted Gear? And the same with the current situation: If Materia Crafted Gear with just 1 Materia Added can make obsolete Raid / Dungeon Gear, why do the Dungeon (except for fun, which I don't mind)?
I think some solutions some of the forum veterans have offered in the past to balance this were things like:
- Allow Unique / Untradeable (Raid / Dungeon) Gear to have *1* Materia Attachable, to give some customization and allow it to be greater than Crafted 1 Materia Slotted Gear.
- Then, Crafted ~3, 4 or 5 Slotted Materia Gear would be the really rare (very hard to gain) "best" gear, but at least for the most part Raid / Dungeon Gear is still "the best for many" (unless they get lucky with Random Number Generator to get passed 3 Slotted Crafted Gear).
Or maybe have Crafted Gear make one type of "best gear" (like one that's skewed for one type of Stat / Play Style) and have a Dungeon / NM drop another type of "best gear" (for another Stat / Play Style)?
- Or have Dungeons / NMs drop Rare Parts that help make an Ultimate Gear (like the way it was with Dodore Wing or Uraeus Skin). This way, the Dungeon / Raid / NM still contributes to a long-term Goal and Crafters contribute as well.
It's a fine balance to have. I think traditionally we're used to seeing the Raid / Dungeon / NM be the source for "Best Gear" and Crafters have some stuff that's useful sometimes.
Is there an ideal solution for FF XIV?
