    Unukalhai [SPOILER Discussion]

    Unukalhai [SPOILER Discussion]
WARNING: This contain spoilers for Warring Triad Storyline. You have been warned!

Just moving the topic here for lore lovers everywhere.
    -----------------------------------
    On Topic:
Unukalhai has been the mystery character since his introduction into 3.0/3.X.

We do not know who is this Master he speaks about and what is his ultimate goal that he seeks to complete for his Master.

However, a interesting thing about his name is that it translate into Alpha Serpentis which is the brightest star in the Serpens constellation which is also known in the Final Fantasy series to be associated to Elidibus from Final Fantasy Tactics.

One may question if his "Master" may actually be Elidibus (FF14 version) and this entire Warring Triad Storyline and sending the WoL to kill the Primals (extreme version) is part of Elidibus's plot about the so called "Truth" of the world with the Warrior of Light being only a Tool to progress his plans and Unukalhai is only the means to get the WoL to perform these tasks.

So what do you think about Unukalhai and his involvement so far in the Warring Triad Saga?

    Disucss!

As long as we've moving the discussion here, I might as well summarize my past thoughts on him, as well.

There are so many hints that Elidibus is the mysterious master that I just take it for granted, for now. At a certain point, "It could still be a red herring." comes with the implication that the herring would outweigh The Truth on the scales, you know? Still, no guarantee. Anyroad, Elidibus shows up at the end of one patch telling Urianger, "I'd like to talk to you about the fate of this star". Then the beginning of the next patch has Urianger hanging out with Unukalhai, who is here on behalf of "his master" on a matter that relates ... "to the fate of this star". That alone seems like a sealed deal, not even taking into account the connections to Serpens (which wraps around Ophiuchus, which is associated with Zodiark).

Raw Speculation Incoming (Much of it repeated from my input various other threads.)

Why is Elidibus discouraging the waking of the Triad, who would surely cause chaos and do pretty much everything primals have been doing so far? Dunno! If I had to guess, it's because the chess table really isn't prepared for them yet. They have nigh-infinite power and there's really not much to oppose them. The XIVth Legion was pushed back and the VIth only just arrived, and conflict is looming over Ala Mhigo, instead. Meanwhile, the Ultima weapon is destroyed, Omega hasn't been fully excavated (yet), and both Ishgard and the dragons are in rough shape. I posit that Elidibus is moving the Warrior of Light and the VIth Legion to very specific places to make the waking of the Triad play out in a very specific way.

Now, I don't trust Elidibus as far as I can throw him. He's posed too well to be that character that you spend half of the game thinking, "He's so sensible!" "He's so reasonable!" "He really seems to know what's going on!" and the rest of it cursing yourself for not realizing that he was only showing half of his cards and you didn't stop him when it would have been easier. I'll be severely disappointed if it doesn't go that way. However, that's not to say that I think he's evil. The black acolytes want Zodiark to take his revenge, but I think Elidibus just wants the original cosmology restored. I think he thinks he's righting a 20,000-year-old wrong. Unfortunately, he said himself that everything, including mortals, will "change" and all will be "as it once was". Considering the Gerun Oracles seem to say that mortal life came after Zodiark's exile, he apparently has no intent to harbor us or anything we fight for through the transition. I assume we'll all be destroyed if he wins, cosmically righteous or no. As an immortal emissary of a god exiled millennia ago, he just can't see the inevitable truth of Final Fantasy: the reins of history belong to Man, now.

But I'm not so sure Unukalhai will go along with it in the end. Every quest takes a moment to show him understanding us a little better, becoming more a part of the team, taking time to see what it is we fight for and what camaraderie means to us. If I'm right about Elidibus (which is by no means guaranteed, I just have a lot of hopes that he's the "big bad" and have a tough time seeing it any other way at the moment), then I think the the boy from a cruel, fallen world (that for all we know was destroyed by an Ascian-backed Calamity) might stand up for our continued existence.

But that's just what I'm hoping for. We know too little to make too much of a guess, and I have a tendency to overthink things. There could be a much shallower story more or less meant to justify two more primal fights and (like the Extremes), not have much consequence in the end, lol.

    Completely random speculation time:

It seems as though the plot is heading in a direction where there are several "alternate" versions of Eorzea that exist on shifted dimensions and that each of the Rejoinings/Calamities is the result of efforts to collapse these "fragment" dimensions back into "Hydaelyn Prime". Kidibus seems to be from one of these fragments, as are the WoD. The common link tying these threads together is our boy Eddy himself; he sees himself as an "envoy" of Zodiark. While the rest of the Ascians seem content to wreak havoc on the main Hydaelyn in order to forcibly collapse these dimensions, Eddy seems like he's taking an alternate approach, collecting strong survivors from these fragments in order to enact his more subtle plans. The lynchpin in this theory is, of course, if Kidibus is actually enthralled to Eddy or working on his own. We'll see I suppose.

I think we'll find out more about the heart of Sabik next patch? Sabik is also part of the same constellation as Unukalhai. I always wondered why it was called a "heart?" perhaps Sabik was a person (similar to Unukalhai) and something happened and left his "heart" in the hands of the Asciens.

Maybe that'll be the fate of Unukalhai? He'll transform into the Eye of Unukalhai? (lol) Still, I noticed alot of focus on eye in Heavensward: Matoya's Crystal eye (ancient light crystal) the eyes of the Greawyrms being sources of power.

Interestingly enough, Unukalhai is also known as Cor Serpentis = Heart of the Serpent.

Although my fear is that his time with us will inspire him to make a noble sacrifice and absorb the triad into himself to prevent Garleans from using them and thinking that he's as incorruptible as the WoL since he wont use the power .... only this was his master's plan all along.

Perhaps the Heart of Sabik is Unukalhai from a parallel world? Or maybe even Unukalhai is what's left of Sabik after he lost his heart?

I also feel it's worth mentioning that everything in the cutscene direction points to Eldibus being our enemy at this point, so the twist Moose wants is more of an untwist. He's just spent way too much time around those of us reading ahead that he thinks there's actual evidence of him being on our side at this point. Alas, there very carefully isn't.

For the most part, I assume this is true. However, Elidibus being the "big bad" does contradict the two things he says most often (and what I assume most people are latching onto when they defend him and theorize that he might not be so bad: "This is all about balance." and "I am not your enemy."

His unceasing repetition of those claims gives me pause.

But words are wind and his actions say otherwise.

    Still... what if?

We still have the thing that the ascians will take back seat on 4.0.

Something will happen on 3.5 that seems that will undo everything they seem to be doing so far.

It can only mean that Edibudus will die?

Or, we manage to throw a large enough wrench into their plans that they need to go back to the drawing board.

    Perhaps...Midgardsormr regaining his body?

Middy getting his full power back was always the reason I'd thought we may be doing a Keeper of the Lake Hard. I hope so, he needs to actually do something, he's been on the sidelines color commentating for almost two years now.
