Are the DPS checks for Nidhogg EX excessive?

After several weeks of failed groups that try to get past the DPS check, I am starting to wonder if the DPS requirements are excessive in regards to the player base. What is the needed ilevel to clear it? Everybody in 235+? Do I need to wait a few months for people to get better gear or should I break down and buy a clear from a server first FC?

If you know the entire fight 100% and can cover your own bum ask a farm party if they will allow you in. Clear parties are basically learning parties its rarely that you will clear with them. So far 100% of the time I asked to join a farm party they let me in. Most of them did the same thing when they tried to clear a EX run.

The DPS Check is not really high.

I've helped as a healer in groups where just 1 DPS got a little bit above the 1k mark and the other 3 were between 900 and 1k at the moment of the kill.

iLvl belongs to the players performance. I did it with my i225 MCH alt and got close to 1,3k DPS (because of fear I did no wildfire in the last phase, as the best spot to start with it is during Ahk Morn in my eyes). More than enough for this fight. The biggest issue in my eyes with low iLvl is the lifepool. To help the healer I did meld vit 4 materia into the right side (on my i225 MCH).

Compared to other trials this one is very easy. For Sephirot we did need 4 raid evenings. For Nidhogg we needed just 1 evening for kill and farm.

Serious though, your group failed dps check probably was a result of failing mechanics, or using CDs at wrong time. The fight might fucked up a lot of BLM/SMN if they can't time their enochian or trance, so i guess it could only be the same for other job. Also without people failing mechanics too hard, as healers you can add a lot of dps during the dps check phase too (adds and nails i assume).

Lastly, you shouldn't need to buy a clear. Keep working on it, add good player to friendlist when you find them, or make a LS with them? try to get it to a semi-static like with the people you selected, that would give you higher chance to clear than just joining PF, cause a lot of people lie on PF about their actual experience of the fight.

Bit depressing that people even consider this might need a nerf. Easiest primal we've had in some time. Only meaningful dps check could really be the Fang and it's easily met if people don't do fool things. Mostly failed by Blue dps tunnelling and not bothering to dodge avoidable damage (hint the fang heals up for far more than that extra hit you are trying to land, gtfo the way). Rest is basic scripted dance of two moves

Gear isn't going to make you any better at passing the dps check, I've seen people in 230+ not pull off the dps needed. Bare minimum for nidhogg ex is around 1430 dps. Which requires you know your rotation and make sure your not wasting movment. Im only ilv 226 and pull it off with room to spare. So its more of a player skill than anything, that's why its a extreme mode, and not a fluffy petting zoo mode.

So I am not blocked from doing the future EX encounters and I hope they will be tuned more like Sep EX.

If you can beat the Stone, Sky, Sea dummy for Nidhogg EX then you got enough personal DPS. If you can't beat it, then you got to work on how you play your job.

I understand your pain. It can be disheartening joining a party and failing time and time again. It's really not worth it to pay for a clear. Once cleared you'll be doing it over and over again anyways if you want the weapons, and if you don't want the weapon, what's the point in clearing it? It doesn't advance your story line. Just keep at it, you'll get a clear eventually; you'll only get better in the meantime.

If the OP didn't feel like she was struggling, she wouldn't have posted here. By my standpoint, initiative makes good character.

Niddy is much more mechanic reliant than DPS heavy. You have to be able to see where cauterize is going. Coordinate with towers and with fang and claw. You have to hope your healers are competent enough to heal through ahk mourn and your fellow DPS to not die and increase the burden for this healing on the healers.

Go check your DPS with SSS. If you beat it by a mile, GREAT! You aren't the problem. If you barely beat it or fail, consider looking up some refresher guides and bring food next time. Good luck!

Edit: If you still main WHM look for your own Co-Heal, that can both keep up dps and take over when you can put your DoTs up.v you should be able to do a full opener in this fight.
