Gotta agree with Syntaxlies. FFXI thrived off of the sense of achievement you got just by leveling up enough to wear that cool looking piece of gear you always saw people in when you were low level. FFXIV isn't FFXI, but it's fair to say that in many ways they do share a niche, and this kind of thing would kind of destroy that a bit. Appearance is an important motivating factor and the exclusivity of various looks so to speak contributes to gameplay and fun as weird as that sounds. It's kind of an often overlooked reward of leveling up.

People who talk about "QQing" need to die in a fire. This person wants to be able to wear what she wants, even as a vanity item slot. RIFT does that with equipment slots. Why can't the OP have that too?

Ok, OP can play RIFT. That is a solution I think everyone here would be ok with.

Because that model of armor wearing sucks. It doesn't make any sense, it destroys individuality of classes, and the vast majority of players don't want that system...

Then comes the "Why not just add it to FFXIV?" Generally you play games that have features or aspects that attract you, which is true for why a lot played FFXIV, however FFXIV was heavily flawed and broken and most players agreed they're ok with SE pretty much redoing the game to make it worthwhile to play for the masses.

Even in game's like rift there's still requirements to wear to certain armor, it's a standard MMO mechanic. This is why XIV is a such a mess because people want the game to be standard yet they also want it to go against standard mechanics simply because "It's what I want."

Role Players are heavily outnumbered by the people who play video games to play, if they cater to the RP community, they're only hurting themselves in the long run. Funny, people complain about Hardcore players wanting the game made to their likes, yet it's ok for RPers to want to the game to their liking?

this is a result of the SE poll for character uniqueness. Now they have fixed it and its gonna stay this way.
It would actually be the other way around, a mage would be wearing mage gear/stats that looked like tank gear.
