It would be funny to follow the Moogles with a cute lil Moogle built Wrecking ball...I like the random CD idea too, along with an account limit on houses

Maybe they're hoping that if enough players are desperate, they'll migrate to the dead servers and everything will balance out. Overpopulated servers lose some bloat, underpopulated servers get a boost. But, I get that housing probably isn't quite enough incentive to transfer.
Mateus is so empty that those NPCs that wanted to move in so badly could have whole wards to themselves.

Lol...at this point I might move to Mateus...for the small price of a Small house :P Gilgamesh houses arent gonna magically open up it seemsMaybe they're hoping that if enough players are desperate, they'll migrate to the dead servers and everything will balance out. No, a small house is bigger. If you want a living space, you should just get a personal room from your free company. It's bigger than the small houses and it costs a fraction of the price. That is of course assuming that you were going to buy the house for your character and not for a free company.

Ideally they should follow LOTRO's suit of having housing on their own servers when wards are filled new wards constantly open up which means everyone is able to get a house but I doubt that'll ever happen.
Another point of note, other issues aside: The Goblet is highly unpopular. Are most of the people "not able to get a house" meaning they are not able to get one in The Mist? Or at all? On Balmung it makes sense that literally all of them got sold quickly, with its population, but on Diabolos there are still Goblet plots available. I prefer The Goblet, so I guess I got lucky in that respect. With all of the posts pre-patch I was banking on having to make a mad dash to get a house, but literally none were sold in The Goblet when I got on - not one. Perhaps in the future The Mist should have more wards created than The Goblet does. Just an additional suggestion unrelated to the other issues that may need to be addressed with housing.

Good way for people without a house but personal room, or apartment room or whatever and still garden with crossbreeding.
This ones a total bummer tho I really wished SE would allow at least some personal airship stuff >_> even if its limited like only one airship or less mats brought back or something."I can't do airship missions". Neither can I unless I go to my FC. I will agree on one point someone made. Maybe house size should (have been) designated to the type of buyer. Smalls for individuals. Mediums for FC with say 5-20 members. Larges for 20+. Could it be cheated? Probably. The mafia thing would most likely be curbed. Too late for that though.
.
about grading house sizes based on type of buyers cant really agree with that
I busted my ass of to grab a medium one as a personal house even risked letting my old small plot go beforehand. i just found the small one to small for my personal taste (with how I want to decorate it)

Or they might merge the less populated servers and use them to add more storage spaceMaybe they're hoping that if enough players are desperate, they'll migrate to the dead servers and everything will balance out. People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
Mafia can be avoided with the simple idea of having a delay between house plot disposal and the chance to buy the same plot again.
