    Breaking crystals into shards

Since fine sand will no longer be available from NPCs and moraines will become obsolete, i was wondering if some kind of change is undergoing for crystals and cluster treatment.. Like, for example, crystals automatically break into shards just by "using" it (ffxi style).. Otherwise i predict a shortage of shards and tons of fishing botters crafting fine sand to provide the crafting market the shards it needs.. I may be looking this from the wrong point of view or missing something but.. Was wondering what the comunity thinks of this

You could always farm your own crystals. Shocking concept, I know.

you should know better then to ask an honest question on these forums. this was asked a few days ago also and people bashed them just saying to farm the sand. most of the crafters i know just spent tons of gil buying the sand now and plan to use it later for massive profit after the price increases.

personally, i just expect to see more shard bots over at the fish npc in limsa buying mass quantities of fish and breaking them down to shards and less doing the clusters and crystals.

I don't think botters will be the only ones selling Fine Sand. If there's as much demand as some people seem to think, then lots of people will probably start making it to sell.

Radiant moraines will still drop from enemies and you can use those to break down clusters/crystals. They have a better yield than fine sand, too.

    I have ACL i think 40 or 41 and FSH 45

Hard to say how exactly the market will swing. I think the main thing this is going to effect is the cost of leveling an actual craft. But the cost could be off set by crafting sand.

Since food and potions arent really used at the moment thats the only place shards really get used.

My guess is crystal price will raise 20-30% and shard prices will rise a lot more 100%+

Edit- Now that I think about it crystal prices might actually drop since no one wants to deal with them and will just go back to the lower level ALC recipes

we can only hope that shards will increase in price, for many people they are thier main source of income and the prices have been falling pretty hard

Fine Sand is still craftable.... Also crystals and shards are VERY easily obtainable through fish...

This is primarily how I make my money, selling crystals and shards, and I don't think the removal of Fine Sand from NPC Vendors will shake the pricing too much. My main concern, although a little off-topic, is the lack of gil-sinks in this game. Fine Sand was really the only way I can think of where players would literally drop ~100,000G's to a vendor, effectively removing it from the game and making every other gil worth that much more. With fine sand being removed, does anyone know any other gil sinks in this game? Or is my 150,000,000G just going to keep climbing!?
